I am trying to design a Balan, Wandering Knight deck for a friend's first commander deck. Suggestions within budget? Is there anything that should be replaced? The deck is: Balan on a Budget with Cap

Sigarda's Aid is a great enchantment for equipment voltron decks. I think it only costs $1-2. Darksteel Plate is a good combo with Pariah's Shield, but they are a little more pricey at around $5 and $3 respectively.
Sram, Senior Edificer and Indomitable Archangel are good support cards too, and only $1 each.

I still run Sram as my commander, since the carddraw is so nice and stupidly insane for mono white. Balan is probably a better Voltron option, but Sram just gives me a good feeling.
Nevertheless, the reason I am bringing it up is that there are lots of good options for your friend which can be found in my deck.
Take a look and pick the goodies you feel are within your budget:
