Strengths and weaknesses —Nov. 30, 2014

After playing the deck for a while i've figured out some of the matchups for the deck. I hope this helps you identify if this is the kind of deck you want to build.

Mono-red:Bad match up game 1 unless you can rip away there creatures early to keep them with dead pump spells. Game 2 your matchup gets a lot better with the drown is sorrow and pharickas cure making the match up better.

Jeskai Ascendency Combo: This is your worst matchup, you cannot interact with their artifacts or enchantments. you have to try to control the creatures but you are pretty much dead. after side board you can maybe stain the mind the ascendency but thats it.

Most midrange decks: Your are well situated against them. They are slow enough that you can set up waste not and go off with discard value and kill the few creatures they play.

Control: Game 1 can be rough but board out the despise for indulgent tormentor and stain the mind their win cons and its a much better match.

I do like the deck. There are some changes I would make. Empty the Pits would make a great one of in this deck because you are going through discard spells so quickly. Bloodsoaked Champion would be better in the main because it allowes you to pressure your opponent in the way you want to. They will have to spend multiple cards to protect their life from it. I would personaly play Black Cat over Brain Maggot because people will not want to discard a card at random, it triggers Waste Not , and they will not be able to get their card back. Rakshasa's Secret would probably be a good two of card in the side board. Even though you have big creatures I am not a fan of Whip of Erebos because you only have 13 creatures, it would be better as a one of. Scry lands and/or fetches would make this deck so much better. Scry lands would allow you to set up your next plays, which is where you want to be going with this deck. Since you are going to be less inclined to play a one mana spell on turn one if you have a Waste Not in hand Scry lands will be great turn one. Fetches will lessen the amount of lands you draw in the late game and be fodder for any delve card. I would play four scry and four fetches. Card draw would be great in this deck namely Sign in Blood . It will allow you to kill your opponents every once in a wile and be a good turn two that helps you find Waste Not or any other cards you might need, two or three would be just about right. Fate Unraveler would be great in the control matchup as a sideboard card.

Rakshasa's Secret is a possibility here.

Urborg makes no sense here because at best it will make Nykthos a swamp but you can only have 1 max so it making 2 nykthos a swamp isn't possible. So 90% of the time you'd be helping other multi decks have unlimited black mana sources. This will hurt you not help you.

Master of the feast is another Urborg here because your goal is your opponent has no hand and you win with something big and black or zombies.

Very Interesting. I'll have to put this together and see how it plays!
