@Ilnez twister, workshop, and tabernacle can all be replaced with Echo of Eons , a basic or another simple mana rock, and Pendrell Mists if you're looking for budget cards with similar effects. You can check out my budget build for 2500$ that only cuts those cards in replacement of the cards i just mention. Bear in mind I've yet to touch those lost to replace PEngine yet as I just havent has the time to edit 3 other lists.

@smurf800 while the 2 arent necessary 1 is...twister, or the budget version echo of eons, is actually a win condition of the deck. In the primer it list how we can assemble a twister loop to cast certain spells over and over if we dont have access to another win condition. Twister loops are commonly used in a large variety of cedh list as generally they are difficult to stop once they get going...narset just helps in this regard since it leaves our opponents handless while we play solitaire.

KailDaemon isn't the PEngine swap just Power Artifact? ^_^

I am currently running Urza and loving him. Still have a lot of tweaking to do. However, I am curious as to why you do not have Cryptic Commqnd in the deck?

Without a doubt (in my opinion) the best version of this deck I have seen yet. Basalt/rings combo is far superior to the future sight combo.

A few things.

28 lands seems scary low, I would think 30 would be the sweet spot. Tell me how thats working. Also, I'm on the fence on recurring insight, it seems a bit mana expensive for CEDH.

Also, I have found misdirection to be a good include, despite how the CEDH community feels about the card.

Thanks!

Onlytruereject 2 reasons why I'm not...1)I dont own one currently lol and 2) I feel as if I have enough efficient permission and interaction at much lower mana cost that I feel triple blue (while mono colored yes and Urza makes blue) is committing that many resources for a modular effect is actually quite difficult when we need that mana to activate a rings or a scepter, or to dump into urza...0-2 mana is about what we want to spend on permission and interaction to be efficient and the extra 2 cmc added to cryptic can just as easily be another spell or activation cost we need to maintain out gameplan. It's just to high cost for an instant speed spell

IronBlackZepp thanks man! Appreciate the kind words. I've tested around 27-31 lands and I've found the sweet spot to be 28. We have enough efficient mana producing cards between lands and rocks (especially once Urza hits the field) to explode in mana. While not being able to make a land drop every turn, we really dont need to, any artifact we have is essentially a land and we always atleast ramp +1 when Urza sticks thanks to the construct. We are also more efficient with out lands since we are usually able to HAVE untapped lands and our opponent won't due to our mana pieces of stax that affect mana product or taxes mana cost. Even if my land count isnt as high as my opponents I've always found myself to be far ahead of them and am doing the most with my mana.

Recurring insight is more or less just a hand refill since we dump our hand pretty fast with artifacts and spending our permission and interaction protecting out board. Its alot of mana but like earlier it's pretty efficient to just draw a full hand when we are empty while our opponents hands are full of stuff the cant play due to our stax, their bane becomes a boon for us should we need to cast this...its also just REALLY sweet to hit this off an Urza activation. I've only actually played it 4 times in my most recent 20ish games and it's been a blowout spell every time. Bad to have early game, fantastic in the mid to late game.

I'll definitely look into misdirection as a potential card slot for both this deck and the budget lists, I think itll have some merit

Thank you both for your comments and input the help make this a better deck!

That makes sense, I personally love Cryptic command. But what you said makes a lot of sense. Having more spells that cost less is a great route to go. With all that in mind, why not Aetherflux Resovoir?

KailDaemon says... #8

Onlytruereject its overkill and unnecessary. The other win con stuff wins easier and almost all the pieces to those combos are just cards we can play for interaction or situational plays. We have recursion with Codex Shredder and Twister so we dont need to hold spells and die, we can use them and then reuse them later on. Having a playable spell for the situation is better than a dead card that's obvious for removal

Hi, I'm tweaking my urza deck.... I've never played or played against m blue in cedh and if im being honest, I don't fully understand the power of time twister and it's loops. I appreciate the conversations and the efforts invested in this primer. Would anyone be so kind as a list a couple of scenarios where timetwister shines?

It would be pretty awesome if someone with experience can coach me through it.

Thanks, Richard

Nice Primer! Check out mine here: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/25-08-19-Hek-urza-cedh/

Can someone convince me to run Narset's Reversal ? I don't see it being that good..

Fuzzbox says... #11

Zen0 for example you copy an opponents ad nauseam

Fuzzbox and zen0;

This is my list for urza: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/urza-combostax-2/?cb=1567775332

I explain how it works narset’s reversal and timetwister in a win loop.

Best regards

Zen0 imagine your opponent goes to cast demonic tutor with the last of their black mana, and you reversal it. or they tap out to cast a counterspell that would stop your combo for the win, and you basically remand it with narset's. it's a flexible tempo card, that also combos with timetwister for infinite recursion

KailDaemon could you please explain me how winds of rebuke wins the game before it kills me first from milling the cards from the top of my graveyard?(since I've exiled the entire deck)

Also, there is any other way to make infinite U mana without scepter?

Why no Ballista?

Great deck btw, up vote

September 10, 2019 12:03 a.m.

G8ldst4in you win the game when mill your opponents and pass the turn, they'll have no card to draw.

I like the Balista, a way to win without think a lot.

Pardon me asking but is there a specific reason you used snow lands instead of plain islands?

December 29, 2019 11:32 p.m.

KailDaemon says... #17

Stumpy123 I run a card called mouth of ronom, needs snow mana to activate its effect. Decent way to clear a small creature in a deck where my creature removal is minimal and my land count is tight

Any thoughts of additions/changes for the new set? Maybe Thassa, Thryx or the Nyx Lotus?

January 8, 2020 9:40 p.m.

jkempic says... #19

Ataraxey Nyx lotus isn't very good for cEDH. Comes in tapped, relies on devotion, it's too slow. New Thassa and Thryx don't fit the deck's plan.

Nice French Delay, I have a friend who is also a fan of that.

Interesting changes, with the removal of Screpter are we just looking to use the new Oracle as the win con? Or how does this change the win cons available?

January 27, 2020 6:56 p.m.

KailDaemon says... #22

Ataraxey scepter is still in the deck, the cut was recurring insight

So I was wondering what do you use Intuition for exactly? I like the card, but that honestly just puzzles me a bit on what 3 cards you search for. Thanks for this awesome list, I’ve been using it as a reference.

February 8, 2020 3:31 a.m.

KailDaemon says... #24

@Julie_Hen intuition is an instant speed modular tutor since we are in mono U. It's a last ditch effort to win counter wars by picking 3 counterspells that are mana efficient to help win a war or stop a threat. It's also used to fill your yard with Codex shredder targets when going for a Codex shredder loop, or it can be a ritual by grabbing fast mana to help ramp in the early game. Easily one of the worst straight tutors but not a half bad instant speed one since we lack black for a hard tutor
