I'm a happy, hyphy happa from the upper half of the Golden State, and I've got an unquenchable fondness for Oracle of Mul Daya and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth.

Several years ago my friend martonsmash recruited me into a game of Commander on a trip to Yosemite Valley. I had very little experience with Magic and was fascinated by the game's seemingly endless depths of strategy. I enjoyed losing to him again and again over the subsequent year, borrowing from his beautiful collection of imaginative brews before I was finally compelled to build a deck of my own. Inspiration struck with my discovery of the old Legends card Hazezon Tamar (a staggering $40 at the time, God help us all). Having recently read and marvelled at Frank Herbert's Dune, I immediately envisioned Hazezon at the head of a deck based on this wonderful story. Its first iteration looked very different, but this pimped out Naya lands deck is the end result of that labor of love. It is undoubtedly my least powerful, but it remains my very favorite.

In the years following, I completely spiraled down the EDH rabbit hole, amassing cards, building increasingly-powerful decks, and pimping them out. The backbreaking pace of the WotC release schedule and Commander's power/value creep eventually put the brakes on a bit for me (a godsend given my fascination with first-printing foils, judge promos, properly black-bordered masterpieces, and spicy old-school combo pieces).

I've now parsed things down to four very special decks, all designed to be artistic projects beautiful in both form and function. While I certainly enjoy optimizing a deck once I've settled on a general, my choice in commander usually steers away from the cEDH contenders, and certain high-octane combos/cards/strategies are intentionally omitted. I love the social element of Commander games and find that this site is at its best when it allows deckbuilding to become the same casual, collaborative, and friendly experience.
