Protection vs Day of Judgement & Indestructible vs Day of Judgement

Asked by Cornebus 13 years ago

If creature with protection from a certain color, i.e [[emrakul-the-aeons-torn] and an indestructible creature, i.e Darksteel Juggernaut face a Wrath of God , day-of-judgement, etc, which will survive?

On a side note, if card:Black Sun's Zenith were cast, which one would be affected?

This has always been quite a problem with me because I play these kinds of spell and people tend to argue with what can be destroyed by what.

Protections follows the acyronm: DEBT. Damage, Enchant, Block, Target. Since Wrath of God and Black Sun's Zenith do not target they get around protection.

In the case of Black Sun's Zenith (assuming X is high enough) everything dies. Including Darksteel Juggernaut and any other creature with indestructibility.

Lethal damage and effects that say "destroy" won't cause Darksteel Juggernaut to be put into the graveyard. However, it can be put into the graveyard for a number of other reasons. The most likely reasons are if its toughness is 0 or less or it's sacrificed.

Normally, creatures will always be able to have -1/-1 counters on them, unless an ability prevents the action, as with card:Melira's Keepers or Melira, Sylvok Outcast .

And it should be noted that Emrakul, the Aeons Torn doesn't have protection from all colors. He has protection from colored spells. He can still be blocked by colored creatures and targeted by abilities from colored permanents. This is how Emrakul can be killed by the likes of Deadly Recluse and exiled by Oblivion Ring .

TL;DR- Creature with protection from white dies to Day of Judgment . Creature with indestructibility does not. Creature with both protection from black and indestructibility still dies to card:Black Sun's Zenith.
