Noob question about Genesis Wave
Asked by Tusina 11 years ago
I pay nine mana and cast Genesis Wave with X=6. I'll reveal Gaea's Anthem , Mycosynth Lattice , purphosos, god of the forge, curse of deanh's hold, Humility and marsh of the machines. I attach Curse of Death's Hold to opponent with more permanents, than my another opponent. What happens?

Well.... This is a good question however it is not formatted well. It seems to me that you may already know the answer if you asked something so complicated.

Your "noob question" title isn't fooling anyone. =P
These results all come out of the normal system of layers, dependencies, and timestamps. Most importantly: once an effect is applied in a given layer it won't be cancelled if the ability generating the effect gets removed in a later layer. An ability that's removed before the layer its effect would apply in doesn't have its effect applied.
- Everything is a colorless artifact creature with no abilities.
- Any permanents that are naturally creatures will be 1/1. Any permanents that are naturally non-creatures will either be 1/1 or have P/T equal to their CMC, depending on whether you choose to give Humility or March of the Machines a newer timestamp.
- Purphoros, God of the Forge doesn't trigger.
- Gaea's Anthem doesn't pump anything.
- Curse of Death's Hold doesn't shrink anything. It will become unattached from your opponent because creatures can't be attached to things. It will go to the graveyard because it's an unattached aura.

What happens when Humility affects itself it is a creature that says cretures cannot have abilities. This is a good question to me.

Once part of an effect is applied then the whole effect will be applied in the appropriate layers, even if another effect would remove the ability somewhere in-between. If Humility is a creature then it will affect itself in the same way it would any other creature.

@Signalguy25p The whole concept of layers is based off the fact that once an effect is applied, you don't go back an un-apply it. It doesn't matter what humility did to itself. It won't be undone.

Thank you, Rhadamanthus, for reminding me that Humility has effects in 2 different layeres.
I believe that the effect of Humility in layer 6 will override it's affect in layer 7b.
All otherwise noncreature permanents will have p/t equal to their cmc. all creatues will have normal p/t according to their charastic defining attributes as per 7a.
this means that lands will die.purphoros counts as a non-creature.

Does Humility 's ability removing ability in layer 6 override March of the Machines 's p/t changing ability in layer 7b?

Like I said, removing an ability only stops its effect from being applied if it's removed before it would start applying. The ability on March of the Machines exists when it's first being applied in layer 4, so the ability's effects in later layers will also be applied. The ability on Humility exists when it's first being applied in layer 6, so the ability's effects in later layers will get processed.
Whether or not Humility or March get precedence to set P/T in layer 7b depends on the timestamp you gave them when they entered the battlefield.
613.5. If an effect should be applied in different layers and/or sublayers, the parts of the effect each apply in their appropriate ones. If an effect starts to apply in one layer and/or sublayer, it will continue to be applied to the same set of objects in each other applicable layer and/or sublayer, even if the ability generating the effect is removed during this process.

if you want a very noobish answer to that very noob question
basically EVERYTHING on the field is a 1/1 artifact creature or an artifact creature with P/T equal to its CMC depending on which order you had Humility and March of the Machines enter the field

Purphoros, God of the Forge
March of the Machines
This has to do with layers
Here is an explanation of layers.
The first layer of interest is the 4th, where March of the Machines and Mycosynth Lattice affect the card type. Since March of the Machines effect is dependent on Mycosynth Lattice , Mycosynth Lattice will be applied first, and March of the Machines after that.
everything is an artifactthey're also creatures.
The next layer of interest is the 6th layer where Humility removes all the abilities of all creatures. this effect will cause purphoros to grant you 0 triggers.
Since Humility killed all of the other abilities we don't even need to bother with layer 7, because all the abilities that effect it are gone anyway., everything is a 1/1 artifact creature.
