Multicolour and colour specific effects?
Asked by Pwnengine 12 years ago
Return to Ravenica brings alot of multicolour creatures so I have a few questions about how they interact with effects that apply based on colour.
- Firstly theres creatures which cost either/or mana, for example ""Slitherhead"".
- Second there are creatures which cost some of both, for example ""Sluiceway Scorpion""
So here are my questions1. Would both ""Ring of Kalonia"" AND ""Ring of Xathrid"" give +1 on upkeep when equiped to the above creatures? Or would neither work?
- How would something like ""Ascendant Evincar"" effect the above creatures?
- Does the effect 'protection from black' give protection from the above creatures?
Each colored mana in the card's mana cost makes it of that color. Ascendant Evincar gives all black creatures +1/+1. So as long as it has a black mana symbol in its cost, then it gives the bonus. And again, for your second question, as long as a card has a certain color in its mana cost, it's considered that specific color, so prot. black would give protection from those creatures seeing as how there is a black mana symbol in it's converted mana cost.

Ascendant Evincar will also see Slitherhead and Sluiceway Scorpion as having black for it's third ability, so it will NOT give them -1/-1.

A card's color is determined by any and all colored mana symbols in the mana cost and any thing that alters the color. For instance, Slitherhead has two colored mana symbols, green and black. Even though it only costs 1 mana, this makes slitherhead both green and black. Sluiceway Scorpion is similar. since the mana cost has both green and black, the card is considered green and black. A card such as Progenitus would be multicolored, and it would be considered all of the colors individually.
However, Rise from the Grave does not alter the mana cost of a card but will alter its color. When taking into account the color of a card, you must pay attention to this.
As for Ascendant Evincar , he will give a Sluiceway Scorpion +1/+1 because it is black, but being green doesn't necessarily make a creature nonblack. A card that referances a card's specific color specifies one of that card's colors, not all of them summed up. the ascendant would give +1/+1 to the scorpion, but not -1/-1 because the scorpion is nonblack. This is the same reason Doom Blade and Terror do not work on Reaper King or Maelstrom Archangel .
