Ixalan's Binding and Brisela, Voice of Nightmares Flip Meld Meld
Asked by Argy 5 years ago
If my Brisela, Voice of Nightmares gets Exiled with Ixalan's Binding , does that mean I can no longer cast either Gisela, the Broken Blade or Bruna, the Fading Light ?
My guess is that once Exiled, Brisela sort of breaks up into her two halves, both of which are Exiled.
Helpful Gatherer ruling from Ixalan's Binding :
- If the exiled card has a different name in exile than it did on the battlefield, Ixalan’s Binding stops players from casting spells with the name of that card as it exists in exile. (2017-09-29)
Since Brisela "breaks up" into her component parts in exile, it's the names of those component parts that Ixalan's Binding restricts.

You are correct. When not on the battlefield meld creatures turn back into two seperate cards and have have the characteristics of the front side of those cards. This means that the casting restriction will be on Gisela, the Broken Blade and Bruna, the Fading Light .
