Goblin Electromancer Mana Reduction to 0?
Asked by WalzY 12 years ago
If I have a Goblin Electromancer does the mana cost of instants/sorceries then become 0 if I have a 1 mana cost, or if i have 2x Goblin Electromancer s and 2 mana cost is that also 0?
Not quite. Goblin Electromancer 's ability stacks as you think, but it only removes colorless casting cost. Even if you have 2 Goblin Electromancer , a spell like Grapeshot will still cost R to play. If (by some act of God) you have 7 Goblin Electromancer s out, a spell like All Is Dust would be free.

As you can tell by the type of mana symbol used in the description of the ability, Goblin Electromancer doesn't reduce the colored part of a spell's casting cost, just the generic part. For comparison, an example of an effect that does reduce the colored part of a cost - in fact, the only example in the entire game - is Edgewalker .

What if there was a Mycosynth Lattice on the field?

Nothing happens. The casting cost is still the casting cost. It's just that you can use any type of mana for it

Not of This World , Skittering Invasion , and All Is Dust are the only cards in Magic that can be made entirely free with enough Goblin Electromancer s, perhaps through the use of Rite of Replication or something similar.

Goblin Electromancer only removes one colorless mana from the cost. Multiple Goblin Electromancer will stack, but for instance Annihilating Fire will still cost you Red Red.
