Geralf's Messenger + Phyrexian Metamorph and & undying does trigger
Asked by ginko2580 8 years ago
Just curious if what I hope happens does happen...
Phyrexian Metamorph Entered The Battlefield as Geralf's Messenger has ZERO +1/+1 Counters and dies and goes to a Graveyard..... Undying "Triggers" and now What?
3 questions here:
Metamorph.... What Return's from the Graveyard?
1. He does return right and how? a COPY-OF-CARD Geralf's Messenger with a +1/+1 counter?
I would need to have the "Original-Gerry-Copied" still OTB to have it ENTER WITHOUT that +1/+1 counter? and thus continuing Undying circle.......
2. Can he or would he, return as a Gerry-Copy even after say a Supreme Verdict was used? does he die?
3. OR. I could "Target" any other Creature/Artifact currently on OTB as it returns? if it was just Dreadbore'd
Im looking at a Deck Idea with these 2 and Phyrexian Metamorph... check it out if you could help it with card ideas.... Thanks

Metamorph returns to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it as a copy of whichever creature you would like it to be.

Please just use the default font size for posts. Heading sizing in the body of the text makes it a pain to read.
When Phyrexian Metamorph dies undying triggers and returns the card to the battlefield. You may have it enter as a copy of any creature or artifact on the battlefield at that time except that it has the 1/1 counter from undying on it. If after a board wipe there are no creatures or artifacts on the battlefield then you have a 0/0 with a 1/1 counter on it. If Geralf's Messenger is not on the battlefield at the time the Metamorph re-enters then the Metamorph can not be a messenger.

That's it... It doesn't remember... thought so... but I did miss the 0/0 with +1/+1 counter on it, It would be givin that do to Undying being the cause of the return. After a Verdict say, at very least... cool.. TY
And I figured the other 2 question/answers....
sorry about the Font size... not sure how I did that. Tapped out auto formatted that kinda.

The font size thing happens when you use the # symbol at the beginning of a line. It has to do with the site's built-in "markdown" formatting. In this specific case the number of # symbols gives the header level of the text that follows it, so your questions were being marked at the Header 1 level for formatting. See the "markdown syntax" link at the bottom of the page for more details.

Thank you all. I've only been back to Magic and Tapped out for a couple weeks... Left after [FRF] came out... wasn't a fan of the Block and then stayed away with the Eldrazi returning in [BFZ].... Hate them. I'll start paying more attention to the Script I use. great answers though TY

One more thing, copy effects don't target unless they specify otherwise by actually saying target, such as with Cryptoplasm.

1) The Metamorph will be returned to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it. You will be provided the opportunity for it to copy something (maybe a Gerry if there is one to copy again). This is to say that Metamorph will not remember what it was when it was first on the battlefield, only that it is a card being returned via an undying trigger.
2) If neither Gerry nor Metamorph have counters on them, you can stack your undying triggers such that Gerry returns first, then Metamorph returns. This way, you have the choice to copy Gerry again.
3) You will have the option to copy something else. No matter what you copy (even if it is not a creature), Metamorph will enter with a +1/+1 counter.
If something is still unclear, feel free to ask questions.
