Does Narset's Reveral Combo with Ral, Storm Conduit?
Asked by Randomsome1 5 years ago
I know MTG Arena has bugs so I would just like some clarification on an interaction.
I'm building a mean Ral, Storm Conduit Oathbreaker combo deck with Doublecast as the Signature Spell. Does the copy combo work with Narset's Reversal ? It doesn't work in Arena, and I think its because the spell gets bounced to hand and disappears, so Reversal loses its target and fizzles out. Is this right, or does it actually combo together?
TLDR
How the combo usually works. Use Ral, Storm Conduit 's -2. Cast Doublecast , let the copy resolve leaving the original on the stack. Cast a copy spell ( Fork , Twincast , Expansion / Explosion , ETC). Doublecast activates leaving 2 copy spells on the stack. Use one copy to target the other and loop infinitely for infinite damage
A note that may be relevant is that, in Oath breaker, your signature spell can never end up anywhere except for your command zone or the stack. If the original spell card would go to your hand, it goes to the command zone instead.

Ok, so it sounds like what I'm missing to make this work is an infinite mana outlet, right? thanks for clearing this up from me

Yes, you'll need a source for the mana to recast the spells that go to your hand (or command zone, in Oathbreaker).

From what I can figure out, the version using Narset's Reversal should work, but in a bit more complicated way than just using Fork or Twincast .
The problem you're having is that, like you said, Narset's Reversal always bounces the spell it targets, so it's no longer a valid target for other spells targeting it and those other spells (the copies of Reversal that you're making) will fizzle.
What you need to do instead is the following:
Cast Doublecast . Ral's -2 creates a copy above it on the stack, which you allow to resolve.
Cast Narset's Reversal , targeting Doublecast . The Doublecast copy creates a copy of it on the stack (Reversal 01) targeting the original Reversal.
Copy01 resolves, copying Reversal (Reversal 02) which you should have target Doublecast , then bounces the original Reversal. Now the stack has Doublecast on the bottom, and Reversal 02 above it, targeting Doublecast .
Reversal 02 resolves, creating a copy of Doublecast and bouncing it to hand. Allow the copy of Doublecast to resolve.
Recast Doublecast . The Doublecast copy creates a copy of Doublecast on top of it. Allow the copy to resolve.
Recast Narset's Reversal targeting Doublecast . The Doublecast copy creates a copy of it (Reversal 03) on top, which should target the original Reversal.
From there, you repeat the loop. It's more complicated, due to the need to keep recasting both Doublecast and Narset's Reversal , but it should work.
