Diplomatic Immunity vs Zur the Enchanter *f-etch* : what happens?

Asked by Noloic 12 years ago

Hi there,

I know right, this is a hyper-frequently asked question, and you probably are annoyed of reading and answering to them, still I'm asking to be sure of the way it works, since I (should) already know the answer. So sorry in advance.

Just as the title says, let's say I got a Zur the Enchanter onto the battlefield, enchanted with a Diplomatic Immunity . From what I know, and from what I read about enchantments and "put onto the battlefield" ettefcts, I can say that, if I attack with my Zur the Enchanter , searching my library for a Daybreak Coronet , I can assign it to him. I think the same worked (before Return to Ravinca came out) in Standard format, where the "only" way to get rid of an annoying Geist of Saint Traft was Sun Titan ing an Oblivion Ring (or anything else that could block it, like Ice Cage , Pacifism etc.) from the graveyard, because, just like some people said, it wasn't considering "targeting". So that's why I'm asking it and now : does it works in the same way for Zur the Enchanter and Diplomatic Immunity ?

Thanks in advance!

P.S.

I would be grateful if someone's diligent enough to find the specific rule(s) for these kind of cases, since my friends aren't informed like me on them, so I'll probably have to show them to be trusted... Thanks in advance again!

On gatherer this ruling applies:

If you use Zur the Enchanter's triggered ability to search for an Aura, it will be put onto the battlefield attached to an appropriate permanent. It doesn't target that permanent. If no appropriate permanent exists for it to be attached to, that Aura can't be put onto the battlefield and stays in your library.

Note: it says that the enchantment entering the battlefield does not target the permanent you put it on.

Yeah, now that you made me look at it, it's true. Sharp eyes you got! Alright then, thanks for the explanation, seems I was correct in the end.

FYI, Oblivion Ring doesn't work against Geist of Saint Traft , even if you use Sun Titan . O Ring isn't a creature enchantment like Ice Cage , and it's ETB ability still has to target.
