Combo Question
Asked by Swim_ish 4 years ago
Can you infintely cast the newly spoiled Skyclave Shade with Aluren from your graveyard? If so, I would put this in my Varolz, the Scar-Striped deck as a backup for if I were to lose my Endless Cockroaches. Pretty much infinitely sac the cockroaches to varolz and play them with aluren with a Blood Artist, Grave Pact, Forgotten Ancient, or any other thing that cares abt things being cast or dying. So would substituting the shade for the cockroaches still allow this combo to go infinite?
Right, you would need to have a new land enter the battlefield every single time Shade entered the graveyard to allow that version of Shade to be cast.

No, that combo doesn't work.
When Skyclave Shade is cast from the graveyard due to its trigger, its is a different object on the battlefield. Similarly, once you sacrifice it to Varolz, it will be yet another new object in the graveyard. This is because the game object that is represented by a card becomes anew when it changes zones. In other words, it doesn't have any "memory" of its previous existence(s).
So, the trigger from the Shade can be thought of as "you may cast this version of this Shade, not any other".
Hope this help!!
