Cards you own VS Cards you control
Asked by MeepKid 5 years ago
I’m trying to build Tahngarth, First Mate deck I’m look up cards with cards you (own) clause in it similar to Renown but when I try to look it up under mtg search and other site I got “you control” instead or Morph ... are the same or they are exactly what they are?
One slight addition to Kogarashi’s post: you also own cards you bring from outside the game, such as with Spawnsire of Ulamog . It’s a bit of a fringe situation, but I suppose it could come up sometimes with the current prevalence of Karn, the Great Creator .

Also also, you own tokens that were created under your control, even if they afterwards change controllers.

I think you're trying to find cards that are referring to a cards owner. The phrase you own and its owner are essentially the same. Stuff like Homeward Path and Extirpate are talking about ownership specifically. Now to actually answer your question with rules:
Control, Controller “Control” is the system that determines who gets to use an object in the game. An object’s “controller” is the player who currently controls it. See rule 108.
You, Your Words that refer to an object’s controller, its would-be controller (if a player is attempting to cast or activate it), or its owner (if it has no controller). See rule 109.5.
Owner The player who (for purposes of the game) a card, permanent, token, or spell belongs to. See rules 109.5

Cards you "own" are cards that started the game in your deck.
Cards you "control" are cards that you currently have control of on the battlefield. These may or may not be cards that started the game in your deck.
