Can something like Quicksilver Amulet be used to summon a commander?

Asked by cryptichorror 13 years ago

I'm new to EDH, and was wondering if cards like Quicksilver Amulet or Dragon Arch can be used to summon a commander, or if you have to get them into your hand first.

You would have to get your commander into your hand first for those cards to help you summon them. the command zone isn't part of your hand - just a special zone where commanders hand out.

This is a simple case of a card only doing what it says. While your Commander is in the command zone, it's not in your hand, so effects like this can't be used to get it onto the battlefield.

Are there any good cards that bring a commander from the commander zone into your hand?

Nope. There are no cards I know of that even interact with the Command Zone. the closest is Command Tower which references color identity.

The best way to get them in your hand is to have a general who can self-bounce. But by that point you've already cast them at least once.

Fist of Suns essentially maintains a 5-cost cast for any spectrum General.

Dream Halls should work too then - or any of the casting cost replacement permanents that don't specify "from hand"

the only thing i can think of that might help you is if someone tries to use a board wipe, use Deputy of Acquittals or something similar to snap it back to your hand. or if you are just going for effects that let it hit the battle field, leave, and come back, just use Flickerform
