Can a Hexproof Planeswalker be burned via Lightning Bolt?
Asked by JWiley129 11 years ago
A previous question got me thinking about an interaction like this: I have a commander deck that runs Leonin Abunas , Mycosynth Lattice , and 3 planeswalkers. For the sake of clarity let's say I have Leonin Abunas , Mycosynth Lattice and Venser, the Sojourner on the battlefield. Due to Mycosynth Lattice , Venser is now an Artifact Planeswalker and thus has hexproof thanks to Leonin Abunas . Obviously this protects Venser from cards like Dreadbore and Hero's Downfall , but I'm not sure on burn spells.
My question is, can my opponent Lightning Bolt me and redirect it to Venser despite the fact he has hexproof?
As Denial says, the player has to have hexproof, not the planeswalker, for those spell types.

If you want to protect your planeswalkers from burn then you need to use something like Witchbane Orb

Yes they can, because they never target the Planeswalker, just redirect the damage.
