YOUR Modern Masters Drafting Tips

Hello peeps! I wish to ask for your advice!

I've been invited to try out Modern Masters draft while it's still around, and I'm a bit nervous. I've drafted only once before and, though I won my pod, there will be far more experienced players there in comparison to that event, and Modern Masters is a very different and complex format.

So, is there any tips you can offer? I am familiar with the basics of Limited deckbuilding and play, but more Modern Masters related tips are what I'm looking for. Can I get away with basic strategies like B/U flyers, or won't things like that be enough? Do I build around my rares first, seeing as those are likely to be the craziest cards? How viable is a splash-into three colour deck if I need it? And also, I'd like to look at YOUR individual tips and observations, or to point me towards particular resources. It's very welcome!

Honestly just have fun with it. I wouldn't got he rare route unless you are money hunting. There are a lot of powerful commons and uncommons in the set and plus a foil in every pack. 3 colors is very possible as the vivid land cycle is in the set. But basic strategies work, though there are built in ones in the set like affinity and goblins and giants and varies. There is even an infinite combo involving kiki-jiki, pester mite, and something else I believe so there is a lot of fun to be had in the set

Drafting MM is just like drafting any other set, except the overall card pool is slightly stronger. MM, like all sets, has built-in archetypes that can help give your deck synergy should you choose to draft into them. Keep an eye open for which cards seem powerful, and then keep an eye open for which cards seem to work well with the powerful ones.

Try to pick up some spells with Retrace. Its a ridiculous mechanic, and even more so in limited. Cenn's Enlistment was soooo helpful in my draft. Throw down an Echoing Courage and win.

I might just stick with solid and steady stuff rather than dive into any particular archetype until later in the drafting process, a friend of mine warned me that the archetypes are nearly impossible to pull off if someone else decides to draft the same archetype.

Also, can anyone identify more what I dub "crossover" cards that tie certain archetypes together. An example of this would be Faerie Mechanist , that can be used in both Faeries and Artifacts. Or, say, Cloudgoat Ranger for both Giants and G/W tokens. I struggle to easily find and identify these cards, so any pointers for other archetypes would help.

Also, what's your opinion on the multicolour cards, notably the really solid ones like Lightning Helix and Electrolyze ? They might be some of the most solid picks (as far as I understand the card pool, removal is light), but I don't want to lock myself into certain colours. Should I select them if one of my colours matches and evaluate splash viability once I start deckbuilding?

Get them, they are supper helpful. I had a lightning helix and it won me a game because it put me one point out of range of his lethal and I had lethal on board for my next turn. They are cheap and not very restrictive (the two examples you gave) so I would draft them under the right circumstances

Storm is a thing in MM. Grizzly Bears aren't as contested as in other limited formats. If you draft faeries, you need strong equipment to go with them (Bonesplitter works). The other tribes function well without a lot of equipment, although any equipment is going to be strong. Removal is also super-conditional, making bombs less important in comparison.

You might try Fungus/Saproling tribal. At my draft the guy next to me tried Doing it also but he got scared off. I stuck with it and my deck tied for first. Its not one that really comes out and screams "really good!" but with the right combat tricks, youll swing for lethal when they don't see it coming. You also get chump blocks for days.

In the only MM draft I did I built RB aggro. Playing some of my games I realized that I accidentally made a Goblin deck, and remembered all the good goblins I passed up that would have improved it.

Despite accidentally building the wrong deck, I didn't lose a match and won me a Goyf.

Thanks for the advice guys. On the consideration of archetypes, I don't think I'm experienced enough to try and draft Storm/Suspend or Arcane, so I should probably stick with a creature archetypes. I'm worried that I won't be able to deal with Giants, actually, seeing as they'll have among the largest creatures. Any tips?

Also, Mind Funeral . Does it have any uses in this format in particular, because mill doesn't seem at all viable bar with Dampen Thought and the unlikely Oona, Queen of the Fae ?

Giants is really underwhelming. If possible, U/W artifacts is pretty good. Maybe ever UWB. Mill is possible as the decks for draft are usually 40 card. But you would need a lot of copies of each card
