Legendary Rule Question

General forum

Legendary rule states that when two legendary creatures of the same name are on the battlefield, they are destroyed.

A question would be, for example if I have a Keiga, the Tide StarMTG Card: Keiga, the Tide Star on the field, and then play another one, both would be destroyed. Does that also mean I get to take control of two creatures at once?

Yes you do. Since both are being put into the graveyard, both abilities will go on the stack and you will get two creatures when everything is resolved.

My guess is that you could, but the state based effect of destroying duplicate legendary cards might prevent you from getting 2.

Also, this post should be in the Rules Q&A forum.

205.4c Any permanent with the supertype "legendary" is subject to the state-based effect for legendary permanents, also called the "legend rule" (see rule 420.5e).

420.5e If two or more legendary permanents with the same name are in play, all are put into their owners' graveyards. This is called the "legend rule." If only one of those permanents is legendary, this rule doesn't apply.

so im pretty sure it does work brotha'

My second hunch was wrong after reading the rule. You would control 2 creatures.

I remember playing the Magic 2012 game, and I kicked my Rite of ReplicationMTG Card: Rite of Replication. Made 5 Captivating VampireMTG Card: Captivating Vampire then just started robbing Sorin of his vampires, starting with Captivating VampireMTG Card: Captivating Vampire. Laughed my a** off.

Elesh Norm is great for it as a super high mana costing Day of Judgement. For a brief glimpse of time, all creatures your opponents control get -4/-4. Very nice.
