Are there any other cards that are similar to Eight-and-a-Half-Tails ? Specifically one that has the same ability that changes the color of a spell?

What are you trying to do with it? There are cards like Painter's Servant , Purelace , Celestial Dawn , Blind Seer , Deathlace , Thoughtlace , Chaoslace , Lifelace , Mycosynth Lattice , Ersatz Gnomes and Moonlace all of which are useful for completely different things.

Although bear in mind that Painter's Servant is banned in EDH if that is why you are asking.

I wanted to use extort or a Sanguine Bond and Exquisite Blood combo but I don't want any protection from black decks to work against me.

that wouldnt effect it.if a black creature would deal damage though , that would effect it.

So if another player has protection from black, I can still use extort on them? And I can use the Sanguine Bond +Exquisite Blood combo?

Extort will effect them, because it is loss of life and it doesn't target. The combo will not hurt them because it targets them. Protection guards against four things: Damage, Enchanting/Equipping, Blocking, and Targeting. If you are using a black source, you can not do any of these things to something with protection from black.

Affect, not effect, in the first line.

@Xwright: Remember that protection does four things. From the MTGS Wiki:

The effects of protection are often described using the mnemonic DEBT. The permanent or player with protection can't be:
  • Damaged by sources with the given quality (all such damage is prevented)
  • Enchanted or equipped by permanents with the given quality
  • Blocked by creatures with the given quality (if it's a creature)
  • Targeted by spells of the given quality, or abilities with sources of the given quality.

Extort doesn't do anything that protection would prevent or stop, and neither does Exquisite Blood . However, Sanguine Bond 's ability targets. Therefore, you can't use it against a player who has protection from black.

But doesn't extort target your opponent and damage them? Like if I was using Crypt Ghast and used his extort, wouldn't protection from black protect my opponent? Because they cant be "Targeted by spells of the given quality, or abilities with sources of the given quality."?

Extort doesn't target anything, nor does it do damage. It causes all opponents (note that it targets none of them, but still affects them) to lose life (life loss is not equivalent to damage).

Ohhhh okay okay. I get it. So as long as it doesn't target the opponent specifically, I can use any black abilities?

June 2, 2014 12:21 a.m.

Not quite. You still have to account for the other elements of DEBT. In this case, damage is relevant. You can't deal damage to a player who has protection from black (although you can make them lose life.
