Can Liliana Vess compete with Liliana of The Veil

I am not sure if I am the only 8-Rack player who thinks this but why do people not use Liliana Vess instead of Liliana of the Veil. I understand the mana cost difference but isn't the main point of the two to just discard your opponent's hand?

Nope. Mana difference is huge. And Veil can also kill things.

FAMOUSWATERMELON It isn't good for even a budget player? Any planeswalkers for 8-Rack that ARE budget?

I mean, you can play her, but your deck won't be competitive.

The two cards are entirely different in function and application.

Liliana of the Veil is a highly efficient way to kill hands and creatures.

Liliana Vess is an expensive way to kill hands, and it doesn't have the benefit of answering creatures. The tutor effect is slow and expensive. is a ton of mana in Modern, and this card doesn't win you the game for that investment.

I personally like Vess better, love the tutor, but both points are valid. I think Vess is better in 1v1 and Veil for 2+, but I am no 8-rack player/pro.

LotV is better in almost all situations (there are probably some super situational exceptions). There are many reasons she's played over Liliana Vess.

As a player of 8 rack myself who managed to get some LoTVs before they reached 90 bucks I can say for a fact that Liliana of the Veil is infinitely better than vess and honestly once you hit 3 lands the rest should be Raven's Crime fodder. If you want a budget version of Lilly of the veil try Necrogen Mists you lose the sac effect but you keep the discards coming.

IN modern, the only planeswalkers that see play over 4 CMC are Karn Liberated and Ugin, the Spirit Dragon, both of them in dedicated ramp decks that are almost built around them. Liliana Vess is so much more expensive than LotV that she isn't worth it. Let that alone, LotV works well with Ensnaring Bridge and can remove a creature.

You are joking right?

8rack wants to play with like 20 lands. How could you EVER cast a 5-drop.

In short. No.

ChiefBell Not even for a budget player? Any planeswalker you would recommend.

In 8 rack budget? No.

The deck doesn't want it. It needs to cut out almost all lands.
