over where i play at there is this deck that is the most annohing edh ive played against. i was able to beat it once with my elvish beatdown deck but it beat me the next two rounds. both times searched for an enchantment called necropotance payed 20 life and drew 20 cards AFTER his discard step. next turn drew a card so had at least 21 cards in hand. searched for another enchantment that gives the enchanted creature +x+x where x is the number of cards in your hand. long story short hit me for 21 general damage in the air. any suggestions on how to stop this freaking general? im thinking lots of flying destruction i just dont know how to get them out when i need them.

Your opponent is using NecropotenceMTG Card: Necropotence incorrectly. There is no "after the discard step." The cleanup step is the final part of any turn. Your opponent will have to discard down to his or her maximum hand size at the end of his or her turn.

Tucking Zur (putting it into the library) is very effective (CondemnMTG Card: Condemn, Chaos WarpMTG Card: Chaos Warp, OblationMTG Card: Oblation, etc.). However, Zur is meant to be a strong and consistent build so it will likely be difficult to beat.

thanks for the input epochalyptik. tucking him would be a good way considering a ton of zur decks fully depend on him to get out the "winning cards" and come to actually read the card NecropotenceMTG Card: Necropotence says that you put that card specifically. can you pay multiple life for multiple cards and also it says at the BEGINNING of your discard fase. not the end of it. so that would mean he'd have to discard to his max hand size. unless hes got like a SpellbookMTG Card: Spellbook or Venser's JournalMTG Card: Venser's Journal out. then id be screwed lol.

NecropotenceMTG Card: Necropotence has received errata. Its Oracle text reads as follows:

Skip your draw step.Whenever you discard a card, exile that card from your graveyard.Pay 1 life: Exile the top card of your library face down. Put that card into your hand at the beginning of your next end step.
The "discard phase" is not actually a phase in the game. Rather, discarding down to maximum hand size is done at a player's cleanup step, which is the final part of his or her turn. If an effect causes something to happen during the cleanup step, a new cleanup step is created afterward and the process repeats until there are no special actions, etc.

ok so he really would need a spellbook or a journal or something like that to actually be able to do that.
