Is the Investigate mechanic worth seeing in EDH...

So I've been doing some thinking, I know, it's a dangerous thing, but seriously... card advantage is likely everything in EDH. The Investigate mechanic seems reasonable enough to create some card draw for decks that love to hold up mana for things on opponent's turns or for ramp decks even that run their hand onto the table, or even just strictly white decks because they lack so much card draw...a card I'm particularly looking at is Trail of Evidence...seems reasonable for a blue card. You get a 'Clue' token for each instant and Sorcery you cast, which isn't hard in blue, and it offers late game card draw or when you're holding up mana, it gives you something to do. What are everyone's thoughts on the Investigate mechanic for EDH? Strong enough to at least hold some weight?

I immediately threw Trail of Evidence in my Azami, Lady of Scrolls deck: Blue Player May I?.

It very easily racks up a large amount of clues for an even crazier amount of card draw.

Comboing it with Capsize is especially fun.

To me it seems that any card that allows you to investigate at least twice is kind of great if you lack card-draw. It's more controlled than so many other draw engines and you'd never draw yourself out with the deck.

Yes. Investigate seems awesome in casual edh. Kind of want to play Simic and copy the clue tokens with typical green shenanigans.

Tamiyo's Journal seems great for any White or Red deck.

I was kind of pining for my old Daretti, Scrap Savant deck when I saw Tamiyo's Journal. Free sac fodder every turn that can also be cashed in for cards or to tutor for combo pieces? Would be awesome.

I'm going to try Tamiyo's Journal in my Augustine IV EDH deck. Seems legit enough for a deck that is slow.

Yeah, Tamiyo's Journal definitely seems like the best investigator in EDH. The enchantments are definitely something to be considered, as well as the creatures with investigate triggers. The Clues can act as useful mana sinks or be utilized in other ways, for example, if you have an Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre running straight towards you, just sac the clues to him.

Anything beyond casual will not want investigate. It's not guaranteed, it's slow, it requires running lackluster clue-enablers, and the mana investment into clues is hefty.

Depends on how commpetetive your group is. If your games are ending by turn 7, Investigate wont get you anywhere. If games go long for your group, it can be fun. All depends on how cutthroat your group is
