Volrath the Shapestealer

Commander Deck Help forum

So I'm going to start digging deep on Volrath now that I've decided I like him. I want to hear if anyone has run across neat interactions with him or has any neat ideas they came up with. Here is my deck as of now Count Volrath. Really looking forward to seeing my opponent's faces when they get hit with a 7/5 Cephalid Constable or Dreamstealer . As cool as the combat interactions are though I'd like to add more non-combat shenanigans. Thanks for your ideas!

One neat little trick with cards like Volrath is to make it unblockable, then, after blockers would be declared, change it to something such as Cold-Eyed Selkie . Two mana per turn (and some setup) for substantial commander damage and card draw or other utilities is pretty fantastic.

My volrath deck is using the persist and undying mechanics to make volrath and the rest of my boar really resilient. Im trying to do a sultai aristocrats using volrath at the head i have a few infinite combos that slot into it, my deck is still a work in progress but from playtesting ive done some really neat plays with it.

If I understand the ruling correctly, if you turn Volrath into a Putrid Leech , activate the ability, and then use Volrath's ability to turn into Putrid Leech again, you can reuse the pump as it's a "different" Putrid Leech. I'm planning on building him this weekend and slotting that in. You could have him become 7 different Putrid Leeches, an Invisible Stalker to get past blockers, then something with lifelink before damage and just delete someone from the game. And all for only 9 mana and 14 life!

For flavor reasons I run Vhati il-Dal . It also helps that with him and Volrath out you can kill any creature you want once per turn .
