Need advice on fun mechanics for Treefolk / Saproling EDH
Commander Deck Help forum

I have an idea for a deck I have been working on for a couple of years now. I keep remaking it because I just can't seem to find the right way to do it. I am hoping you guys could give me some advice and nudge me in the right direction. I don't know a lot about older cards, what does and doesn't work well in practice, or all of the different mechanics. I want to learn how to build a good EDH deck in the process of putting this one together.
I know this probably isn't a new concept, but I hope the way I plan to go about it is at least fairly different. I am toying with a "Living Forest" kind of build. A mix of treefolk and saproling cards with other things thrown in to support the mechanics and theme. I want to put in a ton of mechanical properties that make the deck not only fun for me, but also the entire table.
A few examples of what I mean are: Doran, the Siege Tower | Greener Pastures | Sylvan Offering. I like abilities that change the game for everyone, that are a bit silly and fun. I found a few I like, but I don't know of very many. I also have had an extremely hard time finding win conditions. This is due to the fact that I don't know a lot about how to win effectively in EDH. I just really know basic things like creature pumping, burn decks, etc from the few times I played in standard FNM.
Part of the problem I get stuck on, is that I don't know if I should lean more treefolk heavy, or saproling heavy. I don't know which ones would have the most interesting or fun effects. That being said I have Doran, the Siege tower as my commander, because I absolutely love the ability, but I don't know if I should switch to Ghave, Guru of Spores.
Here is the list of the cards I have been looking at for the deck:

Everything in the "Main Board" is treefolk related.
Everything in the "Maybe Board" is saproling related.
If anyone has some advice or suggestions I would appreciate it greatly!

Ghave seems really interesting, but I've never worked with him before. I'm afrain I'll just be focused by board wipes and won't be able to make it anywhere.
I like Doran a lot, I just don't really know what can be done with him.

regardless of whether you're playing Doran or Ghave you'll be just a vulnerable to board wipes. Ghave is probably more resilient anyway because the optimum way to play him is a combo deck.
If you want to play Doran, look into toughness heavy ceratures. A lot of these will have defender, however you can use cards like Assault Formation to help with that. cards like Slagwurm Armor are also a must.

Hey, Dominaria welcomes back Saprolings to Magic. Slimefoot, the Stowaway is the new Golgari legendary Fungus all his abilities are for Saprolings. Slimefoot's two abilities are perfect for EDH both are possible win conditions. First one damage to each opponent is very good in EDH. The second can be an infinite colorless mana sink.
Slimefoot has real potential because having both these strong abilities on your Commander makes it very versatile in gameplay. Only three mana to play Slimefoot is also very good. Not to mention that Slimefoot is a really cool name for a Commander :)
Saprolings are in Dominaria, Treefolk aren't meaning there's quite a few new good cards for Saprolings like Saproling Migration and Sporecrown Thallid.

Hey I never even knew that!
Thanks for the suggestions.
I wonder why some of these didn't show up in the card search I did.

Personally I like Ghave, Guru of Spores a lot better than Doran, the Siege Tower as he does more. Doran is a fairly boring commander as he just sits on the battlefield, plus he's better suited to defender-esque type decks.
