ducttapedeckbox: Life's a box of chocolates, cept I rolled them all up into a big melty ball, and took a bite out of it.
I had an operation this morning to remove what may/may not be a malignant growth. I also went to a magic shop and found a few new additions to my foil Shock collection. The owner sold me a gatecrash foil Godless Shrine and an original Guildpact foil Godless Shrine for 40 bucks each. I was like "You sure...okie!"
No cool trades at the moment, although I'm always up for them!
I'm currently hoping that Sword of the Meek gets unbanned. I have a BUG shell that i've created for it involving Thopter Foundry, Time Sieve and Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas.
Think of it like Scapeshift, but with a beatdown alt. wincon. I'm looking to pick up sets of Sword and Foundry over the next week in preparation.

wow....that was a great deal you got on those shocks...my lgs is cheap as hell. when selling to them, they give you 50% tcg mid in store credit, or 40% in cash. Oh, and they only use non foil prices. they don't pay extra for foils. Do you play legacy? if so what do you play? And if you could ban/unban one thing, what would it be?

CommanderOfBolas: I genuinely think that the store owner just had a brainfart and didn't realize just how much more the Guildpacts were worth. I wasn't really gonna bring it up :x
I'd love to play Legacy, but I just don't have the money :c
My favorite decks in the format are High Tide and Deathblade, specifically.
If I could unban one thing in Modern... it'd be a tie between DRS and Sword of the Meek. Mostly because I'm super biased, and I want the decks I like to do well.
If I could ban one thing, it'd beeee.... I'd have to think about that one a bit more.

Does the FNM Promo Fanatic of Xenagos (gotta click in, can't figure out the formatting, sadface) look like Nick Cage? This would be a legitimate reason to auto-include him in a Temur build, right?

Also... that really isn't a bad card... like, at all. I wonder why it's never played... (I guess it comes down to- 'eh, there's better.')

I'm gonna give him a shot. So many star roles... why not my deck next? In all reality, he either is a 4/4 trample haste for a turn or a 4/4 trample for good. He hits Ferocious and is a more middle-ground play than other 3 drops like Boon Satyr or Courser of Kruphix. It may be crazy talk, but we've all got a little Cage in us.

Functionally, it's a perma 4/4 trample. I can't imagine anyone will let that thing come in with haste, under any circumstances. I do like that it kills both Carytid and Courser, which are key blockers in standard atm.
I feel like it'll get beaten out by dragons later on, though.

I play a lot against him on Cockatrice (Dunno why). He is really not that good.... If I have a creature with power 5.... Then I just tribute. If I don't, I'll just take the 4 damage, and let him get blocked by my Courser of Kruphix all the other turns...

I hope your operation went well and that you're fully recovered soon. Will you know what it was? And, that deal on the shocks you got is amazing- especially for the original print foil.
When I was starting to play more seriously back in the Alara block, a friend on mine pretty much ran anything Esper he could find. We didn't play by any format, so when he found a Sword of the Meek and started going "infinite" once he hit 5 mana, we banned him from using the Sword. Lol. Regardless, that certainly sounds like a lot of fun to run.
@ CharlesMandore - I used Cockatrice for a while, but then it got weird with updating sets. I find that untap.in is a better site, even though it lacks the streamlined features of Cockatrice.

I seriously think that the lady who sold me the shocks just had a serious lapse of judgement. It doesn't help that her shop is a Legacy shop, so she doesn't really 'get' things like shocks. I was hoping she'd have more, but those were the only foil ones, alas. I'd have bought out her entire Guildpact stock at that price xD.
I think I may try to pull a set of Sword of the Meek and Thopter Foundry off of Ebay before the ban list revisions get released. I really need to finish my set of foil DRS too, just in case...

NorthernRaven: I think that's a symptom of the slower meta that WotC has been crafting for Standard recently. He'd have been amazing in other standards, but in this one...

Actually, I also play a very fast heroic deck. Even against that deck, my opponents don't want to attack with their Fanatic of Xenagos, because then they don't really have anything to block with. Therefore, I usually don't pay the tribute cost. So it is just a 3/3 with trample for 3. Not that good....
Oh, and Cockatrice has gotten a lot better with updates on sets. Try it out now!

NorthernRaven - What lists are you seeing Fanatic in? RG Monsters? Temur? Jund? Are they aggro/midrange/tempo? You're not giving it a good analysis by considering it from the very narrow perspective of your entire deck vs. the card. The least you need to do is look at it within the context of the other deck and how it's a piece that isn't effective against you. If you're running WU Heroic and your opponents don't attack with Fanatic (to use as a blocker?) I'd say that they're not familiar with how your deck functions so before you even consider the deck matchup the pilots are not of the same caliber of play. WU Heroic has a ton of ways to evade blockers... and as a WU Heroic player, the way to beat me is to race me with another fast deck or to load up the removal and hope that I get caught with no/light removal.
