I learned how to actually play the game —Jan. 27, 2020

After playing a bunch with friends who are way more experienced than me and getting my butt kicked, I fiddled a lot with the deck and this is the iteration which performed the best.

Nitelock75,
A very nice budget build!

Kitchen Finks is superb against Burn, but Dragon's Claw is good inexpensive tech.

Kitchen Finks does not help because all the creatures are 1/1s. Sure, they get buffed a lot,but only until the end of that turn. Dragon's Claw also isn't much help because my main concern is protecting my 1/1 creatures, not my life total. Any low cost burn spell at any time could kill them, since cards like Lightning Bolt exist.

Thank you for your time though. I admit I should have been more specific about the defense against burn.

Nitelock75,
I'm not sure what you mean about Kitchen Finks. You might have it confused with another card.
IMO, when Burn starts pointing their spells at your dudes instead of your face, you're in a GREAT position. :-)

I see what you mean though now, that the life loss is not your biggest concern. If you need more protection against Removal, Vines of Vastwood and Blossoming Defense are both awesome. Wild Defiance can be good too.

Draw well!

Kitchen Finks puts a -1/-1 counter on the creature that it returns to the battlefield. Therefore it would be useless, as that creature would just die then.

However, these other cards you mentioned work great! I do already have 4x Wild Defiance in there, but I needed more defense cards. These ones defend against annoying burn AND buff up the creatures, which is great. Thanks a bunch.

Nitelock75,
Ah, I see what you mean on Kitchen Finks now, but you're misreading the card. When it dies, you return it to the battlefield. It's great against Burn (the deck ... which is originally what I thought you meant) because it gains you two life, stops an attack, eventually dies but come right back, gains you another two life, and then stops another attack. But yeah, it doesn't do anything against an opponent's Removal spells.

Sorry I overlooked that you already had Wild Defiance!

Noxious Revival is another option too. I'm not a huge fan, but some people really like it. Of note, it can get any card, not just Creatures, and it can sometimes be used to mess with opponents too (e.g., pulling back a Fetch land if they're mana-flooded, or a key card that they want in their Graveyard).

Which reminds me: In case you weren't aware, you sometimes want to cast Vines of Vastwood on an opponent's Creature. Vines in response to an opponent's pump spell or Equip ability, for example, is hilarious.

Draw well!

I forgot to mention Apostle's Blessing, which is another solid option too. It's useless against Eldrazi, but good against almost anything else. Btw, the reminder text on Protection from ~ is "can't be blocked, targeted, dealt damage, or enchanted by anything ~"

I didnt think of that use for Vines of Vastwood! Thats absolutely awesome. Thanks for the tips. I would add Apostle's Blessing, but i already have 78 cards in this deck, and it isnt really necessary.

Actually, should i put it in the sideboard?
