Meant get Akroan Hoplite second time around*

I think someone asked this before, but is there anyway to look at all the previous packs + picks? We may be able to tell if there is a player definitely in RW out there by seeing if there was ever a Priest of Iroas that didn't table. At the very least, we could get a better estimate of the chances that there is another Boros-colored deck out there.

They are both 1/2's that essentially attack for 2. The upside for Akroan Hoplite is that it provides it's own pump and works with Cavalry Pegasus . The upsisde for the Two-Headed Cerberus is that if we pump him with our bestow creatures, or use him in combination with combat tricks, the doublestrike will be very useful. both have pretty demanding casting costs, especially the Two-Headed Cerberus , costing double red, when our deck is mostly white.
My vote is for Akroan Hoplite because they fill the same role, but the hoplite works better with our deck.

First of all, I'm fairly certain someone else is going red/white (since red heroic must use some white) since they took the Arena Athlete before it could come back to us in pack 2. It would be easier to back this up if I had paid more attention, but this is the main one that I noticed.

Second, while I was tending toward the hoplite anyways, the double-red cost of the cerberus leans me away from it. It would be nice if we could get that out and get some bestow on it, but the hoplite will be strong with both bestow and weenie allies, which we have a fair bit of in this deck.

+1 Akroan Hoplite

We've only seen one Priest of Iroas , pack 2 pick 1, and then it tabled and we picked it up pick 9. During pack 2 we were receiving from the peeps who are in white or red (based on what's been passed, my prediction is on the description), so the priest got to those guys fairly late. They only picked one other red card over it, Arena Athlete , and one white card, Divine Verdict . So it's still possible for someone to be WR since the priest had two cards better than it (and white WAS open for a while).

Thing is, we have seen some of the less popular bestow cards passed around, as well as some heroic enablers. I don't think there's another dedicated heroic/bestow deck. Two-Headed Cerberus is pretty bad outside of decks that can buff him, I think it might wheel.

I'll try to put up the previous packs somewhere.

We had a Two-Headed Cerberus pack 1 pick 1, and I don't believe it wheeled, so this one most likely won't wheel.

I'm also going to vote for the Akroan Hoplite . Mainly because of the double red casting cost on cerberus.

Pack is here, we should take the mantle

+1 Temple of Triumph

Time for our first rare of the draft, guys!

It's mana fixing, and there's no other real playables for us in the pack.

mossflower says... #10

Don't think we should take the mantle, since we're good on the non-creature department, I think.

Mantle is very powerful. replaces itself, pushes through more damage, triggers heroic. It's a very valuable pick

wcdorrell says... #12

Mana fixing shouldnt be too big of a problem, with just a two colored deck.
Temple of Triumph would be a nice card to draw in an opening hand, but Dragon Mantle would be good to draw any time, for the reasons Goody mentioned.

+1Dragon Mantle

We can hope for the temple to table, but i wouldn't count on it.

+1 Dragon Mantle definitely. That is one highly efficient card. It's a reusable pump that will give us something strong to do when we run out of fuel.

I think we can expect to see either Ray of Dissolution or Peak Eruption come back to us, though both would still just be sideboard cards to us.

If we could only get another white heroic card...

-1 Temple of Triumph

+1 Dragon Mantle

Convinced. One more white heroic card from here on would be really awesome as well.

I concur with the consensus. I think the Dragon Mantle is a good pick here.

We've got a few choices here. Vanquish the Foul , Observant Alseid , Satyr Rambler , and Setessan Battle Priest are somewhat decent for our deck. Rambler is the least appealing, especially since it's in a bad spot on our curve. Idk if vanquish is worth it, it's expensive but it'll get rid of almost everything worth getting rid of. A second alseid would be okay, and the battle priest IS heroic even if it doesn't get bigger.

We have a bunch of small threat already but I think that once someone large as Nessian Asp we're in a weird position. I just wish the Vanquish the Foul would have been Exile instead of Destroy, but our deck lacks removal and I would actually go for it instead of a 2nd Observant Alseid although I really like the Dryad in this set...

I like the Observant Alseid .
Picking up creatures now will help move some of our less useful creatures into our sideboard, like those Ephara's Warden s or the Priest of Iroas . Have we thought about how many lands we'd like to run? Because with all this bestow, we really need to hit 4-6 lands quickly.
This is a rather awkward build, with cheap white weenie style creatures, and very expensive pumps, that leave behind more weenies, but i think it could work, as long as we don't end up playing our Nymphs as creatures due to mana screw.

Here is a decklist I've made for our deck. We can keep adding to it as we finish our picks and start making it look like our final deck.

Yeah, I found that after posting, but it won't allow me to playtest. It could just be my computer, but i think it has to do with the privacy settings.

November 18, 2013 1:28 p.m.

Timekeeper says... #22

I am loathe to lose out on the alseid, but I agree that we need some way to deal with big threats. I'm not sure we'll ever cast it but:

+1 Vanquish the Foul

+1 Vanquish the Foul

It's ridiculously overcosted, and I actually really want the Observant Alseid , but we need some way to deal with monstrously large creatures from the opponent.

I think the typical 17 lands is going to be about right for what we have.

November 18, 2013 3:36 p.m.

Nemesis says... #24

I don't know, with one less mana you ahve that the Alseid with bestow, is it REALLY worth the extra mana?

erabel says... #25

I kinda love how it's such a rare opportunity, being spoiled for choice.

I like the Alseid. My vote goes that way.
