Urza's Saga and Second Chance —May 30, 2021
Not sure what I should take out for Urza's Saga, but I'm confident it should be in. Second Chance seems like a nice, tight little combo that I already have a few ways to find the parts of, with Zur finding the enchantment, and the land being found by Tolaria West and my Black tutors. I feel like that isn't nothing, with 4 chances to get the land or a way to get it, and Zur almost always finishing the combo. It's not going to be my go-to combo I'd say, but it'd be a nice thing to pull out of my arse when I'd otherwise be about to lose. Looking at the numbers, 4 copies means ~25% chance of having 1 or 2 in my opening hand, which sounds like good enough odds for a main win con, let alone win con number whateverthefuck, all for 1 card. This solves the annoying situations when I draw Tolaria West and Ballista is out of my yard already, because it sucks to draw it later (it becomes a dead card if Ballista is gone).
Not sure if I can actually protect the enchantment well enough, with minimal countermagic, but infinite turns sounds good when I can still keep playing the game normally (though at 5 life, I might have a hard time if I've got Necropotence out, so we'll see if this is actually works. Without Necropotence being out, I'll rarely hit low life, but if it's out, I can't keep drawing, and might just lose. It's worth noting that Heliod, Sun-Crowned can give Lifelink, which can cover Necropotence, but now we're getting to 'gtfo' territory for cEDH), either using the drawn card to get Second Chance back or using Zur to do it, depending on if I need to draw a random card, or if I'd rather have a fetched out enchantment. I could pull Dovescape, but it's a solid win if it ever resolves, and requires minimal set up to be good, just the ability to pay 6 mana.
I might drop Esper Panorama for being slow and clunky early, when I need it to be golden. Urza's Saga is arguably even worse to draw early (Panorama can fix me, though it generally costs a ****ing turn to do it, which feels like I'm going to lose usually), but at least it'll find my Sol Ring for me if I'm not eliminated by then. I might add more cards for it to find, but it's hard to think of anything in my budget that jumps out. I mean, Mox Opal could work, but it's almost always 1 colour in here, and I usually have so many lands that I can't afford to lose an actual card. Mox Diamond would be obvious, if it didn't cost as much as a shit car. Good old Mana Crypt is good, but giving only colourless is usually not worth it unless Zur is dying often, and it's not like people would ever try to hate out a Zur deck that is carried by the Commander...
