Last Minute Changes —July 1, 2022

This'll probably be the last change until Return to Urza and Mishra's Wacky Adventures lands, at least if I can resist puting Gonti back. They're very compelling in their mannerisms.

Remove:

  • Synergy
    • 1x Commune with Lava - it's potentially good but comes with a lot of up front cost to dig down. Going to go with the more "consistent" and recurrable Wand of Wonder in its place.
    • 1x Sunbird's Invocation - It's cool, but I misread it as exiling when it's just revealing.
    • 1x Apex of Power - Impulse drawing 7 from my deck and getting a refund on the spell cost is actually really sweet, but I'm swapping this out for... ramp.
    • 1x Brain buddy - Just not as nice as the dragon for the cost, though they are quite Menacing!
  • Ramp
    • 1x Shiny Impetus - I know for a fact I'm underestimating the utility of goading a creature, but speaking of shinies I have a shiny Mahadi so I guess it's appropriate?
  • Recursion
    • 1x Danse Macabre - Recursion is very good, but I'm trying to maximize schtick. Okay, maybe not, because I'm replacing it with Wayfarer's Bauble.

Add:

  • Synergy
    • 1x Wand of Wonder - Everybody's got one, it's the new hot thing! This is basically a more impulsive version of Chaos Wand, and I do love my wands.
    • 1x Tavern Brawler - It's one at a time but automatic. Of course, I may end up exiling all my lands at this rate but whatever.
    • 1x Brainstealer Dragon - Not only is it automatic, it’s also way more on brand!
  • Ramp
    • 1x Mahadi, Emporium Master - Cat Ramp Cat Ramp. Very limited since he really seems more like creature-destruction or creature-sacrifice synergistic, but it can work. This makes him more useful once I have board state whereas Shiny Impetus is actually useful even early on. Ah well, I like cats more I guess.
    • 1x Wayfarer's Bauble - One of the best budget ramp cards, budget once more!
    • 1x Lantern of Revealing - I'm going to try this out. Early on, it's an over-costed rock, but later it gives me scry with a chance of getting an extra land! This is actually useful as it can get a land out of the way of my impulse draw abilities.
