2 wins, 2 draws —Dec. 14, 2018

Today was the first Field Test for this build, worked like I thought it would. Round 1: Monogreen elves Opponent didn’t get past 3 forests, flipped treasure map turn 5, landdrops every turn, nova, t6 Teferi, syncopate Steel leaf, then start to combo off. Opponent conceded only when I was down on 7 handcards, library 2 nexus,... Match 2 perfect start for the Stompy, I didn’t draw blue mana, dead turn 5. Match 3 worked well, combo off, timeout, extraturns, draw.

Round 2 Drakes. Match 1 loss, everything was fine, then I drew 8 lands in a row, in the end lacked answers,... Match 2 concede after I ixalaned crackling drake and Niv, was a good match, boarded out 3 revitalize , 1 insight, 1 Sabotage for 2 Ixalan, 1 settle, 2 negate, worked. Match 3 we didn’t start anymore.

Round 3 Budget drakes Match 1 he conceded after I had 3 extraturns with Azcanta flipped and Teferi running. Match 2 concede after I Ixalaned enigma and crackling drake, combopieces on the board.

Round 4: Dimir Control disinformation campaign. Match 1: concede after I started comboing off, opponent was a bit unlucky , had both color lands in starting hand , I syncopated t2 thought erasure, he didn’t draw fast enough, again treasure map helped me win. Match 2 concede, he wanted to play FNM modern, was a tight match until he conceded, could have gone both ways,...

Conclusion: I like this brew, even though it is a really tiring way to play and win. Shock lands will help a lot, but it’s playable like this. I think the balance for match 1 is quite good, you can defeat control and Aggro, after boarding a good match 2 is more or less guaranteed, so I guess I will keep playing this pain in the ass list,...

ive played a similar list. the chemisters insights are usually a little clunky when you're going off. i'd cut them for Chart a Course or if you want to stay at instant speed, Anticipate.

Well, I really like insight for 3 reasons: I can surveil, and Azcanta it and still use it via Flashback, i can cast it 2 times and it draws me 2 cards. This way I can thin out the library more efficient than with the other options... that’s the reason why I chose insight. I will try tomorrow, then I’ll see what adjustments it needs. I started thinking about Memorial to Genius, but by the time I can use the sac ability I shouldn’t need it anymore, and a tapped land in the first 5 turns can be a crucial hindrance i‘m afraid... Thank you for the Input, wakawakawaka Thanks for upvoting!

I probably wouldn´t play Revitalize. There must be better options. :-)

Thought so too, but it gives often much needed life and draws a card instant speed, so you can make it to the boardwipe,... The other option would be anticipate, more filter, no lifegain,...

Me game 2: Unmoored Ego targeting nexus, good game unless you force lyra to resolve and get to swing with it. If you don't have a Negate on the draw then it looks bad.

Also, have you ever played against one of these decks? Just wondering how any human being could want to do this to somebody. I want to cry every time i see a nexus list lol.

I know that ego will come against any ub decks KaladeshKat, but 1 of 8 counterspells for 2 mana should be in my hand by turn 2,... and yes, it sucks to play against a nexus deck, like against all other controldecks, hehe! But still, it works...

How do you win

Nexus to Nexus to Nexus, when there are no other cards in the library it is an infinite combo... normally the opponent concedes the game at some point.

Huh, so you have to rely on them to concede? It's not like you can mill them out or anything either, as if you ever pass the turn, you'll have no other cards in your library.

You can always put your Teferi, Hero of Dominaria back into your deck and you will never deck out, while your opponent has no permanents in play because of the emblem and he will deck out eventually. It's a slow and painful win, but it's effective.
