Hello again, deckbuilders. After a tiny hiatus, I'm back with you. And I'd like to share something with you. It's my deepest, darkest Magical secret. What is it?
I'm a griefer. Deep down, one of the main ways I get enjoyment out of the game is revelling in the suffering of my enemies. This probably explains why I love control decks, and in particular BLUE control decks, so very much. When my opponents aren't having any fun, I totally am.
Now, granted, this isn't a good way to play Magic, at least not with great frequency. We griefers have to learn to play nice and build decks that are fun to play against, or no one will be our Magic friends. But deep down we still long to use THAT deck. You know, the one where you bring it out and your friends say "THAT deck? Really?"
For me, "that" deck is Cyanosis. It's just....well....I basically DESIGNED it specifically to inflict suffering. I mean, most control decks like to finish you off as quickly as possible once they achieve their win condition. I deliberately filled the deck with nothing but counterspells and a painfully slow win condition- Field of Dreams plus Millstone for some good old-fashioned painful lockdown that will take forever to win with while your opponent's will to live slowly drains away. I recently added Jace, the Mind Sculptor after I acquired a couple in an attempt to be MERCIFUL with the deck. I wasn't sure if I wanted to add it because I thought that would be too easy on my opponents.
My challenge to you this week is to emulate my sadism and build a deck. Here are the rules.
1- Your deck must be legacy-legal.
2- Your deck must achieve victory via some path that is likely to make your opponent wish they had never agreed to play you, and make them vow internally never to play you with that deck again. In other words, the deck must be as unfun to play against as possible.
3- Your deck may NOT accomplish goal 2 by creating some kind of stall tactic that can be maintained indefinitely (and I mean REALLY indefinitely- it's ok if your idea takes a LONG TIME to execute, just not if it takes as arbitrarily long as you want it to. In other words, no infinite loops, and nothing that looks suspiciously like an infinite loop).
4- Shahrazad is to suffering what Skullclamp was to winning in Mirrodin standard before they banned it; any deck that REALLY aims to make its opponents suffer has to have 4x Shahrazad. Therefore, Shahrazad is banned because it is broken in this suffering-based format. For similar reasons, Isochron Scepter is also banned. It's too easy and obvious, making your opponents suffer using these cards.
5- You WILL be graded on the KrazyCaley Big Three grading criteria- Effectiveness, Theme Adhesion, and Creativity. Worthy of special note in this installment is Effectiveness- your deck has to inflict sadism, but you WILL have moving targets and your opponents WILL be fighting back. Your decks will have to show their opponents that resistance is futile and that life is suffering.
6- You may submit a maximum of three decks; please do so by posting proper links in double square brackets to your deck on Tappedout. If you don't know how to do that, it's easy- just surround your deck name with double square brackets on either side. You can do the same thing to link to usernames and card names. I will consider only the last three decks you submit in the comments, unless you tell me to consider a different three decks.
7- Deadline will be the end of Wednesday, April 21, as measured by Pacific Daylight Time.
Good luck, and bonus points to you if you thought "Shahrazad on an Isochron Scepter" before I banned 'em/realized that sadly, Shahrazad is not an instant.
Shahrazad on Panoptic Mirror with X amount of Paradox Haze s on the field. Even one Haze would be a drag.

In reference to rule #3, do you mean infinite loop like Isochron Scepter and card:Orim's Chant, or loop like combo?
Because I'm thinking Mystic Decree and Island Sanctuary . While I can do it every turn, its possible to turn it off.
And my first deck, holy--prevented- (http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/holy-prevented-/)

Oho, I think I might actually be able to do this. I've been mentally tinking around with an idea right up this alley for a while now.

@MrEnglish
I wouldn't really consider that an infinite loop; creatures just can't attack you. Infinite loop would be more like yes, card:Orim's Chant + Isochron Scepter .

3rd entry : i'm-not-stalling,-it's-a-legitimate-tactic.
zero, you need to put [ [ ] ] around the name of your deck and it'll auto link it for you. No spaces between the brackets though, or either side of your text though.

I love this challenge so much !!! It reminds me all those years I've been playing magic with my friends. For the last (and only one) challenge I've been playing, I made two decks on the spot especially for the challenge. But this time, no need to rush. I already have this deck and I experience the feeling, asked for the challenged, more than once ! So here it is. : )
April 15, 2010 3:33 p.m.
And then, I also made that deck, but this one, just for the challenge: whatever--you-do...
April 15, 2010 5:37 p.m.
I love this challenge! You're all very evil. It makes me feel at home. I also hope to make one or two of these decks to see how my regular group handles them.
Here's my 1st entry: walls-of-agony

grief (http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/grief/) is my second choice, a focus on LD. Instead of stopping things from happening, just keep them from being possible in the first place!
April 19, 2010 2:57 p.m.
Kram130, Legacy legal decks consist of all sets, and the only cards that are not allowed are a limited set of banned and restricted (banned being you cannot play them, restricted means that you cannot play more than 1).
The official magic website has a banned-restricted list for all formats, including Legacy, so you may want to check it out.
