what can blink do?

Asked by doodkyle 9 years ago

so i've heard of decks based around the blink concept. cards such as Momentary Blink . I have a couple of ideas as to what it might be used for, but i want to be sure they are accurate.here is a list of my ideas, please correct me if i'm wrong.

prevent removal spells such as Murder .

remove negative enchantments such as Weight of the Underworld .

assign a block, then blink to prevent the blocking creature from dying (ex: Leonin Iconoclast vs Eagle of the Watch +Momentary Blink ) to prevent any combat damage to yourself and your creature.

please let me know if any of these are untrue, and please let me know if i missed any important ones.

also i am new to tapped out, so i apologize in advance if i posted this on the wrong forum.

This particular forum is for questions about the rules of the game and card interactions, so it's probably fine to post this here.

Yes, all your ideas work out just fine. When something changes zones, it becomes a completely new object with no relation to what it was before, minus a few exceptions that won't apply to the examples that make Blink effects useful. This means the new object won't be the target of any spells/abilities targeting the old object, it won't have anything attached to it, it won't be in combat anymore, etc.

Yes, because you haven't controlled them continuously since the beginning of your most recent turn.

Rhadamanthus one more question. if my opponent plays a mandatory sac card like, lets say, Slum Reaper can i choose a creature to sac, then blink it to save it? is there time to cast the instant after the sac selection but before the sac resolve?

No, it doesn't work like that. Since Slum Reaper 's ability doesn't target, the choices about what to sacrifice aren't made until the ability is actually in the process of resolving. Once a spell/ability starts resolving, no one has priority to take any actions until it's totally finished.

Otherworldly Journey can save a creature from something like this, since it doesn't come back until later, but a Momentary Blink -like effect that returns it immediately doesn't help.

You missed the major idea behind most Blink decks. Abusing ETB or LTB effects. Cloudshift becomes "gain 5 life and put a 3/3 beast token into play" with Thragtusk . Or abuses the hell out of Gray Merchant of Asphodel
