questions about dimir mill exile cards

Asked by koylucumert 8 years ago

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/mill-to-exile/i have three questions about this deck1) so lets say my opponent has face-down card in exile due to Pyxis of Pandemonium. what happens if I play Wasteland Strangler and target that card?2)while i have Circu, Dimir Lobotomist in play, if i cas one side of Far / Away will i get one exile or two?3)circu's ability doesnt say "as long as circu is on the battlefield " or " as long as that card remains in exile. so lets say circu's ability triggered and got Lightning Bolt out of my opponents deck. will my opponent be able to cast the bolt when circu dies or when i return the bolt to graveyard? the same questions are also for the ability of nightveil specter.

  1. Part of the rules for processing say that you're allowed to choose a face-down card in exile, but if you want to do that then you have to choose randomly from whatever face-down cards are there. You can choose a random card from the ones exiled by Pyxis of Pandemonium.

  2. While it's a spell on the stack a split card just has the characteristics of whichever side/sides you chose to cast. If you only cast one side of Far / Away then Circu, Dimir Lobotomist will only trigger one time.

  3. Abilities of a permanent-type card only work on the battlefield, unless they specifically say otherwise or would only make sense if they worked in another zone. Circu's abilities only work while he's on the battlefield.

and also, so if have a circu exile some cards, then my opponent kills it and then i cast the second one. will the second one see the cards the first one exiled too and keep my opponent from casting them?

For your next set of questions:

  1. Cards in graveyards can only be face-up. The face-down card you process will be face-up in the graveyard.

  2. An effect that references "cards exiled with (something)" is only talking about cards currently in the exile zone. If you move cards exiled by Circu into another zone then his ability won't apply to them anymore.

  3. When a card uses its own name in the text of an ability it means "this object, right here". Cards exiled by one Circu won't be considered by the ability of another Circu. Note that you get the same result if a Circu leaves the battlefield and then that same Circu comes back onto the battlefield, because changing zones causes a card to become a new game object.

And now for the series "Nipicks that don't actually matter, but I'll make them anyway:"

From Rhadamanthus's first post:

1) Part of the rules for processing say that you're allowed to choose a face-down card in exile, but if you want to do that then you have to choose randomly from whatever face-down cards are there. You can choose a random card from the ones exiled by Pyxis of Pandemonium

This is accurate, but it is worth mentioning that if there are multiple distinct sets of face-down exiled cards (like a Pyxis of Pandemonium and a Colfenor's Plans, or even just multiple Pyxides) you get to pick which set you are choosing from.

So, for example, if you have a Pyxis that has been activated three times and a Pyxis that has been activated once, you get to choose whether you are processing the one card from the second Pyxis or a card chosen at random from the three exiled with the first Pyxis, rather than a picking a random card out of all four cards that are currently exiled face down.

Because you used the word "Pyxides", I'm willing to forgive you =P
