If Awoken Horror  Flip is put into the graveyard does it stay transformed?

Asked by Diskord 5 years ago

Say I was building a Lazav, the Multifarious deck and I want to copy a 7/8 for two mana (because Awoken Horror retains its CMC from Thing in the Ice  Flip. Could I do that or would I just get a copy of Thing in the Ice  Flip?

Awoken Horror would revert back to Thing in the Ice  Flip in the graveyard so you would just get a Thing in the Ice  Flip. Just think about Startled Awake  Flip in the graveyard it is still Startled Awake  Flip so you can use its ability. Hope this helps:)

You would just get a copy of Thing in the Ice  Flip with no ice counters on it. The next time you cast an instant or sorcery spell, you would trigger the transform ability, but your copy would be unable to actually transform and remain a Thing in the Ice  Flip.

711.4a While a double-faced card is outside the game, in a zone other than the battlefield, or on the battlefield with its front face up, it has only the characteristics of its front face.

711.5. Only permanents represented by double-faced cards can transform. (See rule 701.27, “Transform.”) If a spell or ability instructs a player to transform any permanent that isn’t represented by a double-faced card, nothing happens.
