To Aether Hub or not to Aether Hub

I feel like I am seeing 4x Aether Hub in every new standard deck.

I am playing 4x because I need colorless for Thought-Knot Seer and the one shot mana fix doesn't hurt whever you play it. (with no other energy sources in the deck)

The strange thing is I am seeing it literally everywhere. In low curve decks with low land counts. In decks with large multicolor needs where they only get the fix once. All with no other energy sources.

Am I wrong? Is it just that good if you draw it early and does it just not matter late because you get at least one color fix?

It is good because it can be used to give you any color you want in your deck. It's basically Tendo Ice Bridge in an uncommon.

It's strictly better than Tendo Ice Bridge unless you're manipulating charge counters. You get the counters instead of the land, meaning they're interchangeable across other hubs, and if they get destroyed you still have the energy. Ice Bridge is already a pretty decent card, so I'm not surprised at all that Hub is popping up everywhere.

Add on top of this that any energy source can be converted into mana of any color, and I'm definitely not surprised it's seeing widespread play.

I'm using it as a 4x in a control shell with no other energy uses simply because the fixing is that good. Once I've used the energy up the colorless land doesn't bother me either as almost every spell will have generic requirements to cast as well. 3 colored decks have been playing Evolving Wilds and that card is just bad when you need to cast something on curve. It being untapped and providing fixing is just what the 3-Color decks needed.
