What would you like to see in the next Plane?

I'd really like to see another Snow Age set.

Ice Age 2 or something like that.

What about you?

RETURN TO RETURN TO RAVNICA

Muraganda, i want dinosaurs and don't care.

They've already confirmed a third revist of Ravnica. Plane is too rich with story to avoid.

I'd like to revisit Kamigawa. The Japanese folklore inspired plane is a fantastic world in my opinion. I only started playing in Born of the Gods so I would like to partake in a Standard with ninjas, samurai, and oni.

Not to mention, considering the timeline where Kamigawa takes place, it would be fascinating to see where it stands presently in the timeline of the multiverse.

Samurai planeswalker?

Yes please.

If I remember correctly, there's a new plane coming up. I hope for some Viking stuff.

March 28, 2016 3:41 p.m.

HSF117 says... #6

I wouldn't necessarily want to return anywhere. If I had to have a return block I would have to pick a new Kamigawa block. Maybe a Plane where the colors have to rely on each other in a similar way that Ravnica's guilds ands Tarkir's clans did. That seems kind of vague though. TMBRLZ you beat me to it. :p

Egyptian would be cool. Could feel like a "Return to Theros" sort of block with big God creatures, and/or could introduce a new permanent type, which MaRo has said would be the most likely new card type if they were to make one.

Viking would be neat as said above.

I really want a mostly-oceanic plane but obviously that would present a few problems with color ratios/power levels.

On the topic of returns, I expect a Return to New Phyrexia at some point, given Bolas sent Tezzeret there to report on the status of the Praetors, presumably for good reason.

Anything thats new.Return to zendikar and innistrad is nice but we want to see new stuff!!!!

Sceadugenga says... #9

An oceanic plane doesn't necessarily distort the color pie, and could be seriously cool. Pirate plane? YES PLEASE.

Personally, I want Fiora to be a stanard legal set--the Italian Renaissance feel is right up my alley, and I love the Brago-Marchesa conflict.

March 28, 2016 4:15 p.m.

AlexoBn says... #10

Vikings and norse mythology. There would be so many artworks possible. Plus snow stuff again

March 28, 2016 4:16 p.m.

greyninja says... #11

I would like to see a plane with no humans or civilization of any kind. Strictly animals and vegetation.

Planeswalkers can show up and basically name every creature and location as they see fit. Maybe there's an evil planeswalker like Nicol Bolas who uses it as a hideout to build up mana etc

March 28, 2016 4:18 p.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #12

An oceanic plane sounds awesome.

March 28, 2016 4:19 p.m.

nayrash5 says... #13

I want to return to New Phyrexia in the near future. The Phyrexians are way too cool of a villain to leave ignored. Though not right away, I don't want three return blocks in a row.

March 28, 2016 4:24 p.m. Edited.

kanokarob says... #14

Obviously if they did make an oceanic plane they wouldn't distort the color pie because balance, but logically the color pie would be naturally distorted on this plane as Blue would either be the most relevant color, or the most powerful color, so I would be unhappy as it wouldn't make sense.

TMBRLZ says... #15

Garden of Eden plane sounds pretty awesome greyninja. Maybe there's some ancient planeswalker they introduce who has lived independent of the multiverse and has discovered the depths of "the spark" through her own method and fruition. She could be an expert on mana. A "the Mother" type character. Wise sage lady.

March 28, 2016 4:26 p.m.

TMBRLZ says... #16

I mean lets be honest... is the color of MtG.

I wouldn't mind a plane that focuses on and then different color combo cards that all incorporate . Would make for an interesting Standard. If they can make pure artifact and pure multicolor sets they can make a set that predominates one color focus.

March 28, 2016 4:28 p.m.

greyninja says... #17

I don't think you'd need to lean an oceanic plane towards blue; you just treat it like a normal block but everything is under water!

Idk how an Island would work since in an ocean world an island would be the only solid ground likely be tapping for , , or lol

March 28, 2016 4:30 p.m.

smackjack says... #18

Return to Dominaria or another arabian inspired set would be sweet

March 28, 2016 4:31 p.m.

greyninja says... #19

TMBRLZ; I like where your head is at

I wasn't sure if the hermit planeswalker on the plane would be good or bad. I always leaned towards bad since it may make for a stronger story.

I figured the block would have swamp creatures like giant salamanders, forests would be run by apes, plains by lions, etc. It would give a lot of design space to build on non-cliche tribal creatures

March 28, 2016 4:35 p.m. Edited.

x754 says... #20

To those worrying about Blue dominance on an oceanic plane - keep in mind that magic and mana are based on their context. On Mirrodin-New Phyrexia, metal trees are a forest. On a plane entirely covered by water, kelp and coral reefs would be forests, underwater volcanoes or vents would be mountains, stagnant underwater caverns or sinkholes would be swamps, any dry land would be an island, and sea flats would be plains.

@ TMBRLZ
When you say Garden of Eden, Shandalar comes to mind. Though that's not what greyninja is getting at, because there's people on it. And it's unlikely that we'd get to go there because there's no planeswalker-related conflict on the plane (unless suddenly 5 planeswalkers happen to take a break there).

March 28, 2016 4:36 p.m.

TMBRLZ says... #21

Underwater volcanoes for mountain art.

Maybe clear tropical water for plains?

Forest could be reefs. Technically "foliage" for the underwater world.

Swamps could be literal swamp lands or maybe dark ravines deep in the ocean floor.

March 28, 2016 4:36 p.m.

kanokarob says... #22

I would love the set to be primary-blue of course. I was actually making it in Magic Set Editor before my computer's hard drive corrupted. Still have the story in my head though.

Kaladesh, people. Kaladesh.

Then, if WotC really feel like revisiting an old plane every two blocks (and MaRo already said this is exactly what they'll do from now on), I'd like to see another Kamigawa block, except this time with good cards and good mechanics and at least tolerable flavor text.

square711 says... #26

Also, I want a Thopter planeswalker. I don't care if that doesn't make any sense whatsoever, I TRUST WIZARDS

March 28, 2016 5:10 p.m.

jchudz says... #27

I could definitely see a norse block coming up, maybe with an "equipment matters" theme where you have people using the weapons of the gods, mjolnir, gungnir, etc. It could explain some of the random cards in oath and soi that care about equipment.

Ulgrotha was actually an interesting place. It's a shame that Homelands happened to it.

Lol @ MarkerD. Do they make a Kevin Costner merfolk Planeswalker?

March 28, 2016 6:25 p.m.

Egann says... #30

At first I thought the water world idea was terrible. Then it grew on me. Use Polynesian oral traditions for the pantheon and have a high tech setting so you have submarines, underwater cities, and scuba gear for your non-merfolk walkers.

Mechanics? How about a black focus, emphasizing the food chain with lots of small 0/1 krill token generators and big predators which have to eat small tokens during their upkeep? Maybe not. I'll ponder on that.

Maybe have a set that takes place in between planes in the aether there could be some really cool cards that could come out not to mention the artwork

March 28, 2016 7:51 p.m.

kanokarob says... #32

The Blind Eternities is the space between planes, AEther is found there. And fairly certain its been stated that only Eldrazi can survive there, with Planeswalkers being the only other thing able to pass through it safely. (Barring special cases like Marit Lage)

March 28, 2016 8:34 p.m.

jandrobard exactly why we need to go back there. to at least mitigate the stain that was Homelands. though it did give us Irini Sengir which is one of my pet Legends, so there's that.

Another future sight block would be cool

March 30, 2016 12:47 p.m.

_person_ says... #38

A water plane would be really cool... maybe blue for, well that's kinda obvious. Green would be the giant sea monsters, and black could have big sea monsters too, but with some kind of drawbacks. Red could embrace something other than fire, like it's earth aspect, some interesting burn spells that make since under water. White would be interesting... underwater themed healing, maybe U/W menfolk clerics? It could work. It would also freak me out, I'm afraid of giant creatures that live in really deep water, so...

PistonGolem says... #41

I called it Kaladesh earlier, I am happy now. I want to be able to say that I play thopters without having to explain that they are not Thopter Combo thopters.

June 24, 2016 12:32 p.m.

_person_ says... #42

So... let's come to a compromise... thopters fly over this water plane, and (insert thopter planes walker here) controls them? Oh and what about some new water breathing mechanic, that doesn't do anything on it's own but some cards reference it? A card called like drown or something that destroys a non-artifact creature without water breathing?

June 24, 2016 1:39 p.m.

kanokarob says... #43

When I tried to develop my underwater theme, I had two keywords:

Drown essentially turned permanent into manifests. Once they became drowned due to another spell it ability, permanents were colorless 2/2, and could be turned face up for their mana costs regardless of their perm type.

Creatures with Submerged couldn't be targeted by spells or abilities unless they were attacking or blocking.

June 24, 2016 2:13 p.m.

_person_ says... #44

hm... that would work pretty well... very interesting ability. When a card with morph is drowned, would you turn it face up for its morph cost, or mana cost?

June 24, 2016 2:19 p.m.

_person_ says... #45

Thopter planeswalker: Bob, lord of thopters.Cost:6 loyalty:4+2: put a 0/2 colorless thopter artifact creature with flying onto the battlefield.-X: put X 1/1 colorless thopter artifact creatures with flying onto the battlefield.-8:Bob becomes a 2/3 thopter with flying and indestructible until end of turn. Until end of turn all thopters you control get +4/+4 and gain trample and haste.
