Paper Pauper, a different format altogether

Pauper forum

So I've been getting into paper pauper recently, mainly due to the inflated cost of standard mixed in with the horrific cost of more rotation. I'm getting more people into the format, which is great, and I myself have 5 decks (and an addiction). My issue is, Pauper is supported by Wizards, buuuut it's supported as an online only format. I'm mostly fine with this, my issue is that I would soon like it to be supported as an FNM, which it can be, and we could soon have the playerbase for it, and the fact that things are printed as a common on paper, yet haven't been printed since as a common on MTGO worries me. The banlist covers cards for MTGO that are broken online, however some cards may be too strong for paper. Do I just let every mono black player run Sinkhole and Hymn to Tourach? Is there somewhere to find extensive rules for paper pauper, or does it sadly not exist.

Any information helping would be great, cheers!

Paper Pauper has no official ban list. Typically most people will just start with the existing MTGO ban list, then decide as a group what other cards are too broken/expensive to see play.

My shop's paper ban list is the mtgo ban list + Great Furnace, Vault of Whispers, Gray Merchant of Asphodel, and Ghostly Flicker. Basically just tune your ban list to your own needs until the format becomes supported. The reasons behind these are to help bring down the overall power level of the format, bring down the appeal of several of the top decks that make the format stale, and to promote ingenuity.

I would preface that with the fact that if you want to know more about anything Pauper, feel free to ask me.

Since Paper Pauper is not an officially supproted format, you do not get the benefit of "extensive rules for paper pauper". However, since Wizards now allow basically anything in FNM my advice is this:

0/ Start with the official banlist of Pauper from WOTC.

1/ Run a Pauper FNM (convince the LGS) and have everything listed in Gatherer as a paper common (no masters edition, except those banned by WOTC). Require decklists but make no deck checks.

2/ Check what is bah-roken after the first time and ban accordingly.

3/ Rinse and repeat for next week.
