Which Deck?

Modern forum

Im looking to get back into modern. My initial pick to get back into the format was affinity. Now im looking into delver. Either a 4 color variant(my brew) or classic grixis.

Considering long term playability and overall performance in the format, which do you feel is the better choice? and why?

Probably grixis just because I have no idea what this 4 color version is but from what I have seen 4 color decks just dont add much you have plenty of powerful cards in something like grixis.

To be honest, it depends on the meta. Grixis is always pretty decent, but nothing spectacular. At the moment, it is best to run a Grixis Death's Shadow deck, essentially switching Delver for Death's Shadow, or running both at the same time.

Depending on what that 4th color is, it might be good to go that route. Delver is never one of those tier one decks (except for a brief amount of time where Grixis Delver was on top), and doesn't have a set best version, only a best version at a time.

In my opinion, for now, the 4 color variant sounds decent, if it's in the UBRW colors. UWB Delver, UWR Delver and UB Delver are also up there for being good candidates. Basically, Path to Exile and Fatal Push are really good right now, so I'd go for that.

Delver decks still have a huge space to grow, and have several variants that can get good at certain times. While it may not be the powerhouse it is in Legacy, it is a viable deck that rewards knowledge of how the format works, and can be experimented with heavily.

TL;DR - Delver is a good candidate in any meta, as long as you have the right pieces and knowledge of what's going on. In this meta, white and black are at their best, but this will change as time goes on, and Delver decks can adapt.

Not sure if that helps, but I hope I sold you on it. If you like to brew, play control, aggro somebody out, and play a bit of protect the queen, try it out.
