Can Zombies Be Viable?

Deck Help forum

With Risen Executioner coming into the Standard environment, could it be possible for a Zombie tribal deck to come into fruition? We have some good zombies in Standard a la Gray Merchant of Asphodel and Gurmag Angler. I'm not quite sure exactly what the build should quite look like, but I've sketched out an idea here:

Thoughts?

I dont think there are enough low cost Zombies to make him work in a normal tribal deck. That being said, I think playing hom afyer dropping a Empty the Pits at the opponents EOT is something that could work.

Some kind of self mill and then you can exile everything but him when you Delve for Empty the Pits to keep hos cost down

I thought Sidisi whip was basically Zombie lol? oh well I'm sure you can do Zombie tribal but like someone else stated it might not be good on curve or anything like that. But best of luck!

Here's a list of all the zombies in Standard

There is some cards in the lower part of the curve, they just aren't very good.

Sidisi, Brood Tyrant makes zombies but is a non-bo with Risen Executioner, so...

non-Bo? I haven't seen this term before just wondering what it means. maybe I meaning it wrong my head xD. Ever Sidisi whip I've seen at my LGS ended up winning with armies of zombies so it be pretty cool just to add even 2 executioners to that just to give it a strong arm.

Ideally this will either be Black with a splash of Red or Blue. Red gives access to Tymaret and Nightfire Giant while Blue gives access to Tasigur, the Golden Fang, Returned Phalanx, and card draw.

I think blue would be a good step. Tasigur or what ever banana boy is, is pretty strong right now. Doing blue would be easy to have some lands that use green literally just for Sidisi if you needed.

@Viral_Assassin, non-bo is one of the ways to say "non-combo" or "negative combo" in MtG slang. In this case, it is a non-bo because, though Sidisi, Brood Tyrant makes zombies for Risen Executioner to pump and can mill the executioner to be recast, it also puts more creatures in the graveyard which, in turn, makes executioner harder to return to the battlefield.

I could be wrong about this because I haven't tested thoroughly yet, but I feel that recasting Risen Executioner will generally be something you don't do until late game when you don't have much else to do, therefore Sidisi, Brood Tyrant may not be bad.

I've found a fun combo with the idea is exploiting a Gray Merchant with Sidisi to tutor another Gray Merchant and also whip back the first one.
