Epic MTG Battles of Histoooory!

Challenges and Articles forum

SO yesterday I posted this thread asking you all if you could play MTG with anyone in the entire known history of the world without ANY language barriers, who would you play and what deck would they use.

Here comes part two!

I want you to make your historical figure's deck. Try to stick to theme as much as possible and try to make it as competitive as possible but fret not! These decks will not have to interact with each other at all so there's no need to worry about who has the "best" deck.

Along with this I would like a brief description on your deck of :

  • How each card correlates with the theme of your historical figure

  • A short description of who they are and why they are famous.

There's a few reasons for this. First of all, it's great practice for thinking outside the box for creating decks and descriptions here on tapped out. Not saying anyone needs it but hey, if you do maybe this will help! Secondly, It helps you spread a little knowledge and history around Tappedout and maybe someone will come around and learn a thing or two.

Now don't worry, I wouldn't just ask you to do this out of the kindness of your heart. I'm offering a fist full of feature tokens to a randomly selected participant. Don't want the tokens? We'll work something else out when we get there.

Have fun Guys/Gals

I know I mentioned Cleopatra, but can I do Adolf Hitler instead?

How about defining a specific format to build the decks in, and providing the incentive by offering the tokens to the winner of a self-conducted elimination-style tournament of the decks?

I'd want to play a game of magic against Teddy Roosevelt. I'll create a list for him based off his Big Stick Policy.

cklise I could but I felt that There may not be a way to express everyone's person through a given format. Sure modern might work but I would rather not limit people. On the subject of elimination style, there are a few things wrong. I don't want to turn this into a tournament because there are actually several going on right now and I don't want to play the decks myself because it's possible that I simply won't play them as well as their creator might have and thus skew the results. I chose the random clause due to not wishing to "grade" the decks. This isn't quite a homework assignment. It's a way to bridge MTG with a history lesson while encouraging artistic freedom.

pookypuppy6 If no one else is doing him, you may BUT I will ask you to be self conscious that we have some Jewish visitors on this site and to be very careful about exactly how you go about it.

This really goes out to anyone covering a dictator. If a mod approaches me or you about the subject matter, I will not hesitate to follow whatever they tell me to do.

Oh this sounds simply grand. I'll post a deck list after I have a nap. Don't worry, no one will take my historical figure.

VampireArmy: I understand, and that is very fair.

My intention was for the Hitler deck was for a sort of Juggernaut tribal, with cards like Juggernaut and Armored Transport to represent the focus on Hitler's favouring of armoured warfare. It is mono-red with no references to death per se (I deliberately chose to not employ black, for example).

Would this be an inconsiderate deck concept? If it is, then I apologize for the idea and I will attempt to go for a Cleopatra deck (though I have far less ideas about how that should be).

You have free reign man. All I'm saying is to limit certain parts. Your idea sees alright to me

"Juggernaut tribal"...

This is going to be fun.

D.B. Cooper Deck - 'Skyjack'. Made rather quickly, I may go back and rework it. This was a way fun deck to build though.

I kinda want to get in on this too. I was thinking I'd make an Isaac Asimov robots deck, or maybe construct tribal (because I want to play Adaptive Automaton, then choose constructs). If that's still available I'll get the list together.

I won't make a deck, but I think a fun deck would be Ulysses S. Grant Goblin Tribal with Goblin Bombardment as the main win con. For those who don't know, Grant was a general during the American Civil War before he was president, and is famous for almost recklessly sacrificing lives in order to win battles. His plans worked, but they were costly.

How 'bout Yang Guifei?

Murdered for supposedly being part of the cause of the An Lushan rebellion, and murdered as a result, Yang Guifei was a favored wife of Xuanzhong.

Alright here's mine: Epic MTG battles of Histoooory!: King Arthur. To be honest I cheated a wee bit! I took my existing knight tribal deck and tweaked it slightly to fit!

April 14, 2015 2:39 p.m.

you think you cheated? Epic MTG battles of histoooory: Rube goldberg is an exact copy of a deck I've already made.
