First, let's take a look at the winners of our last challenge and the new cards to be added to the set:

Now, let's continue filling more uncommon slots. If you remember from previous challenges, we have stated that old cards submitted will be considered for slots in lesser rarities. So, if you put a card out there a while ago, you might see it getting a second chance.

So this is how this is going to work. For each color set in the shard we will tell you how many available slots there are for cards. Then you will vote and submit changes for cards. Then with the remaining slots new design chalenges will be held.

Let's take a look at the RBW shard, Chavest. Here is some information on Chavest as well as the accepted cards so far, to consider while voting.

Possible White Uncommons

There are 3 mono-white uncommon slots for Chavest. Six cards from previous challenges were brought back as suggestions to fill some of these slots.

Chaven Martyr by landot
Design team comments:
One member thought it could be a common at a 2/1 P/T and by taking off the "plus 4" part. Another suggested this:

Chaven Martyr
3W
Creature - Human Soldier

First strike
When Chaven Martyr dies, gain life equal number of creatures you control.
2/4
Cleansing Ascension by hammert1m3
Design team comments:
One member of the design team was fine with this as is. One member indicated some concern with the amount of token types already present in the set and did not want to add more.
Painspike Paladin by Lord_Of_1234
Design team comments:
We were very split here. One member said to ditch the second ability and make it 5 CMC. Another member said that it was a bit crazy to have an uncommon that bests a titan head on.
Priest of Purgatory by IronHead
Design team comments:
We liked this card as is.
True Judgement by pyrefiend
Design team comments:
Basically the casting cost is the issue here. It does not fit in a multicolored set well. One suggestion was to make it simply 2W, another was to make it BW and counterable.
Varhas's Disciple by SLD
Design team comments:
One thought was to make this card 2 cards, even at different rarities.

Possible Black Uncommons

There are 2 mono-black uncommon slots for Chavest. No cards from previous challenges were brought back as suggestions to fill some of these slots.

Possible Red Uncommons

There are 2 mono-red uncommon slots for Chavest. Two cards from previous challenges were brought back as suggestions to fill some of these slots.

Crazed Imp by gmeintanis
Design team comments:
No suggestions here. Kudos though to for designing a very nice french vanilla creature.
Rage of War by ElementalMaster23
Design team comments:
Another card that was submitted for Sorok that may work in Chavest.

Possible Black/White Uncommons

There is 1 black/white uncommon slot for Chavest. No cards from previous challenges were brought back as suggestions to fill some of these slots.

Possible Black/Red Uncommons

There is 1 black/red uncommon slot for Chavest. No cards from previous challenges were brought back as suggestions to fill some of these slots.

Possible Black/Red/white Uncommons

There is 1 black/white/red uncommon slot for Chavest. No cards from previous challenges were brought back as suggestions to fill some of these slots.

Other Cards

Again we have a straggler. We like the card but there are no slots that fit him. See what you think. What should we do with this card? It is possible that they can be adapted to other slots, or that we could use them as commons once modified, or that they get saved for next set in the block.

Counterattack by Yourman
Design team comments:
This card was actually submitted for Sorok but may fit in this shard better. Some of the design team gfelt that this may be ok as a common as well.

Voting

So here is how voting will go down:

  1. Each person casting a vote should cast a vote of "yes" or "no" for each card shown above.
  2. After your votes for each card, you may include a justification or suggestion for changes to the card. Changes for cards that are more severe will be considered more than they would be with rares.

All votes must be submitted by Wednesday, March 7th 2012.

Chavest Martyr - Yes but remove the plus 4 and make it a 3/2

Cleansing Ascension - No we already have 2 shards based heavily around tokens.

Painstrike Paladin - Yes make the second ability just cost rb and reduce it to +3/-2.

Priest of Purgatory - Yes as is.

True Judgement - No. This is a multicolored set. WWW is a bad casting cost for such a set.

Varhas Desciple - No.

Crazed Imp - Yes.

Rage of War - Yes but change the casting cost to 2r.

Counterattack - No. The wording makes my head spin.

Counter Attack might be better worded as this "Tap target blocking creature you control. This creature deals damage equal to its power to an untapped creature Attacking player controls."

Chaven Martyr - Yes. I like it as a 2/1 for 2W. I would leave the "goes to the graveyard from anywhere" part, but I would take out the plus 4. Also I would drop the first strike, combat survivability seems to go against his ability.

Cleansing Ascension - No. Less tokens please.

Painstrike Paladin - No. Too much going on here for an uncommon slot.

Priest of Purgatory - Yes. Great as is, nice flavor.

True Judgement - Yes. I can understand why WWW was used in the casting cost, exiling is very potent. However, being a set based on triple colored shards, that can't fly. I would make it RBW, and leave it uncounterable.

Varhas's Disiple - Yes. BUT, to simplify, I would just give it Cleave 1, and make its activated ability just do 1 damage.

Crazed Imp - Yes. Man, this feels borderline OP though. But maybe that's just how it looks.

Rage of War - No. I can't see this getting any play in constructed.

Counterattack - No. This thing is all over as it is right now.

Just noticed something. For Painstrike Paladin I meant drop the second ability and reduce the cost and effect of the first ability.

Cleansing ascension - sure

Priest of Purgatory - Yes

Crazed imp - yes

Rage of war - yes

others seem overpowered, or overly complicated, for uncommon.

Chavest Martyr - I don't really see the flavor for this shard

Cleansing Ascension - too many tokens in this block

Painstrike Paladin - Op

Priest of Purgatory - Yes great card

True Judgement - I like this but not as mono white maybe as rwb

Varhas Desciple - No.

Crazed Imp - Absolutely

Rage of War - No

Counterattack - I like the idea. Could be good mono red card. Good flavor

Priest of Purgatory: Yes

No to all the other white uncommons.

Rage of War: Yes? This seems very strong for draft/sealed (and how else is this set going to be played?). Comparable to LevitationMTG Card: Levitation except that most of your creatures aren't going to have haste or first strike to start off with. Fits pretty well with this shard, seems like lots of religious war going on.

Crazed Imp: No? This ability seems really strong, and it makes combat a pain. It's really strange that, if you block this creature, you actually take more damage! This would be better as a 2/1 for 2 with Cleave 2.

It's also weird how you can block with this creature and deal damage to the opponent. Would the ability be better if it only worked on the offense? Sort of like a better Lone WolfMTG Card: Lone Wolf ability.

Chaven Martyr: Yes. I like the design team's suggestion, though it could also be the common.

Cleansing Ascension: No. It's find in general, but I don't like it for Chavest.

Painspike Paladin: No. This looks incoherent. At rare, maybe, but definitely not uncommon.

Priest of Purgatory: Yes. I think it should specify "from the battlefield," but it doesn't need to say "instead."

True Judgement: Yes, if it was BW. Otherwise, no.

Varhas's Disciple: No, but I like the idea of separating the abilities. Each card by itself is yes.

Crazed Imp: Yes. Simple is good. Cleave 3 is a little powerful for a 2/1, though.

Rage of War: Yes.

Counterattack: No. I see what it's trying to accomplish, but it's too confusing.

Chavest Martyr - this works make it for every creature that you control and a 2/4

Cleansing Ascension - Nope this is not the hard with tokens.

Painstrike Paladin - to strong

Priest of Purgatory - Yes great card and we needed a graveyard hate at uncommon i think.

True Judgement - I like this but it should be RBW and any creature not just attacking.

Varhas Desciple - yeas make it just tap for one red and only do one damage.

Crazed Imp - yes make it a 1r to cast

Rage of War - No

Counterattack - YEs make it mono red

Change counterattack to

Target blocking creature you control deals damage equal to its power to target creature or player

Yourman says... #12

Chavest Martyr - No

Cleansing Ascension - No

Painstrike Paladin - No

Priest of Purgatory - Yes

True Judgement - Yes

Varhas Desciple - No

Crazed Imp - If the Cleave gets lowered then yes, currently its OP

Rage of War - Yes

Counterattack - Seeing as it is overly complex I will say no currently and submit it again in the next challenge in an easier to play version.

As it stands:

Chaven Martyr - No. Why? In self mill it would be OP

Cleansing Ascension - No. Not in this set. Think of it in combination with Morglen creatures and you'll see why

Painspike Paladin - Not without changes. Too high cmc, too mana reliant (considering getting WWWBBRR by turn 6... quite a challenge), too many abilities for an uncommon that doesn't seem to do much. At best it kills a titan. At worst it sits there, a 2/3 for 6, waiting for the right mana to come along for it to PyroclasmMTG Card: Pyroclasm the field. Make it a 4/3 first strike, ditch the pump ability, change the second ability to "RB: Painspike Paladin deals 1 damage to each creature" and you'd have a pretty solid draft card

Priest of Purgatory - OUCH. Really REALLY powerful for an uncommon, considering the Leyline of the VoidMTG Card: Leyline of the Void costs twice the amount, is a rare, and doesn't give you life. Also, it doesn't stack so running more than 1 is pretty useless. I suggest this changes to make it a possible archetype: "When a permanent an opponent controls is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, gain 1 life. T: Exile target card from a graveyard"
