Would Encrust put a stop to Tormod's Crypt?
Asked by Fleetfiend 12 years ago
I have a self-mill deck, and it is probably evident that card:Tormod's Crypt is a bit of a problem for me. I know that the Crypt's effect can be activated in response to, say, a Naturalize , but would it be able to tap and activate if I attempted to cast Encrust ?
I have a feeling the crypt would still be able to tap before Encrust was resolved, but I would just like to be sure. It would be nice to have something other than Witchbane Orb to protect myself with.
Yes. Encrust goes on the stack targeting card:Tormod's Crypt the same way Naturalize would.

Encrust will not help you here. Just remember that everything you cast from your hand uses the "stack". While a spell is on the stack both players get "priority", starting with the turn player. When a player has priority he/she can cast spell, activate abilities, etc.
So in this case it's obvious the opponent will just use card:Tormod's Crypt in response to you casting Encrust . Thus causing Encrust to fizzle.
Something like Krosan Grip would work here, but im guessing you need something standard.

It can activate as a reaction to casting Encrust because you choose your target for Encrust as you cast it.
If you're trying to stop artifacts like card:Tormod's Crypt or Nihil Spellbomb then try Stony Silence !
