Would copying a spell count as casting it again?

If I copied a spell while Kykar, Wind's Fury was on the field, would it trigger his effect twice or only once?

Spells and abilities that copy a spell on the stack simply create a copy directly on the stack. There is no casting involved. This means that Kykar, Wind's Fury will not trigger when you copy a spell. Ral, Storm Conduit would, though, because he triggers when you copy a spell.

  • 706.10. To copy a spell, activated ability, or triggered ability means to put a copy of it onto the stack; a copy of a spell isn’t cast and a copy of an activated ability isn’t activated.

Copies are only cast if the effect copying says to cast it. You'll find this on cards like Isochron Scepter , which copy a card and then cast the copy of the card.

What Kogarashi said is correct, but additionally, note that if the spell cast to create the copy was a non-creature spell (ex: Dualcaster Mage is a creature, whereas Twincast is a non-creature spell) Kykar, Wind's Fury would trigger.

So here, Kykar is triggering for casting the spell which copies, not the spell that is copied.
