When Metamorph werewolf, does it have ability to flip?
Asked by mikedh1 13 years ago
When you Phyrexian Metamorph copy a transformed, flipped werewolf, can it be flipped back to the untransformed, unflipped side of the transformed, flipped werewolf, its copying, when 2 spells, are cast during the same turn?
Also when Metamorph copy a unflipped werewolf, can it be flipped by either no spells cast, or moonmist?
This came up in a game, during a playtest game, against someone's FNM deck. He said that when I casted Moonmist, he got to flip his metamorph copy of one of my werewolves.
Also, I am thinking about putting a Metamorph, in my werewolf deck, and whether I add it to my deck, will depend on how it works, flip, or no flip wise.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Mike
Phyrexian Metamorph can't flip if it's copying a werewolf:
701.25a Only permanents represented by double-faced cards can transform. (See rule 711, "Double-Faced Cards.") If a spell or ability instructs a player to transform any permanent that isn't represented by a double-faced card, nothing happens.

Taken from an answer by Bingbing from a couple days ago:
The copy will never be able to flip. Here's the ruling, look at the example - it's enlightening:
711.3. Except for determining whether or not a permanent can transform, a spell, ability, effect, or rule that needs information about a double-faced permanent sees only the information given by the face that's currently up.Example: A Clone enters the battlefield as a copy of Wildblood Pack (the back face of a double-faced card). The Clone will be a copy of the Wildblood Pack. Because the Clone is itself not a double-faced card, it can't transform.

Sorry didn't mean to ask a similar question, that had already been asked, answered. I didnt see any similar questions, so that's why I asked.
Thanks for answering the question.
So if I copy , then it can't be flipped back.
Copying a Huntmaster, a flipped Daybreak Ranger, and a flipped Mayor, is awesome then.
Copying a unflipped Mayor, unflipped Daybreak Ranger, unflipped Wolfbitten Captive, not as great then.
Could end up being a double edged sword, then in a werewolf deck, but if used carefully, right, then still has amazing, incredible value.
Thanks

Well you can just use it to kill an opposing Geist of Saint Traft or Thrun, the Last Troll , which you probably don't have any good answers for. Or you can copy a Sword of War and Peace and just win the game off that. I think it's still worthy of some testing.

Not to mention the turns 3,4,5,6,7 Shape Anew drop, that got foe a Blightsteel, that kept my werewolf deck from going 5-1 vs the field at 60 player FNM, instead of 4-2 vs the field.
Also would have been helpful vs the Wolf Run deck that I beat 2-1.

Cards like Blightsteel Colossus are why I always mainboard Revoke Existence . Permanent removal of whatever artifact/enchantment is causing my grief? Yes please.

Yes thats nice, but I am not running white, I am running Red,Green werewolves. So the only answers for Blightsteel andother similar nasty stuff, is to either sideboard a [traitorous Blood]], or to main deck Metamorph.
Since I won't sideboard Traitorous blood, since most don't play Shape Anew, Blightsteel type decks, the only thing for me to do is maindeck metamorph.
Now if I was running white, then I would sideboard the Revokes over naturalizes, since naturalizes dont work on things like Blightsteels.

yes, it comes into the battlefield as a copy of the creature which states when two spells are cast, flip it. the same goes for if you copy a unflipped. Its exactly the same creature with all the same ablilities, so yes, it can
