Exiling a spell means to remove it from the stack entirely. This means it won't resolve, so the simplest way to use Mindbreak is as a counterspell.

However, there's a few significant differences. For one, it says "any number." This means that if your opponent is playing with Storm or Cascade shenanigans, you can get rid of all their spells or copies.

Also note that it's "any number" rather than "all." This means if both you and your opponent have spells on the stack, you can exile all of his but none of yours.

And lastly the "exile" is an important aspect as well. Spells that say they can't be countered have no defense against Mindbreak, since it doesn't counter the spell, it just exiles them. They just cease to be.

Well Mindbreak trap targets spells. So the most likely goal of mindbreak trap is to exile all the spells your opponent has played this turn. So say your opponent decides to cast Mutagenic Growth , Groundswell , and Giant Growth all in one shot to attempt to swing at you with a lethal poison attack. All of these are on the stack at the same time, then you may cast mindbreak trap which exiles all the spells you want. So all of those are now exiled and do not resolve.

If you allow a spell to resolve it will either be a permanent or resolve and go out of play (whether graveyard or exile such as Virulent Swipe . Regardless they are no longer spells and thus cannot be targeted by mindbreak trap. It's a tricky card to really use well.

The opponent would normally let each spell resolve before casting the next. Otherwise they are dumb.

Sure, but Storm doesn't work like that. You cast a Storm spell and all its copies get put on the stack, you don't get the chance to cast one at a time. Same with Cascade and Replicate.

Yeah, most of the spells on ANT deck aren't even instant. Apparently they always have to Duress the trap out or they just lose, as normally there's no more than 1 tendrils on the deck I believe.

They could also Pact of Negation it. Or play card:Orim's Chant before combo-ing.
