What impact does doublestrike have on Malignus?
Asked by franco_sanchez 12 years ago
I was wondering if the change in power on Malignus would apply before the second strike or afterwards....
Example: (opponent has 20 life)10 (1st strike) + 5 (2nd strike) = 15 damage.or10 + 10 = 20
Your first assumption is correct.
An opponent has 20 life, and thus Malignus is a 10/10. You attack and he isn't blocked. During the first strike combat damage step Malignus deals 10 damage, then when SBA's are checked, Malignus 's new PT is 5/5, as the opponent now has 10 life. During the regular combat damage step Malignus deals 5 damage to your opponent. Malignus deals a total of 15 damage.

Thanks for the help guys! Guess I'll just have to use him in EDH or combo him with Furnace of Rath

Or just use Inquisitor's Flail to deal damage equal to their life total. :)

I'm a big fan of Fling and Reverberate with Malignus as well, Quietus Spike is also fun.

In that case it would be 10 damage and 5 damage. Characteristic defining abilities are static and so immediately after first strike damage has been dealt to your opponent Malignus would go from 10 p/t to 5 p/t and deal normal damage using this new p/t.
