What happens in what order if I have gravepact, Viscera Seer, Pawn of Ulamog, and Nether Traitor?
Asked by SwiftDeath 13 years ago
All of the above are on the field now I sacrifice Nether Traitor to scry 1 with Viscera Seer so how does the stack attempt to resolve with Pawn of Ulamog and Gravepact both on the field. recently in a game some one played protean hulk and I was trying to get rid of a different creature they stated that because gravepact would trigger last and resolve first they could fetch two creatures from sacing the hulk to save there Steel Hellkite but I said that because the triggers happened simultaniously i could choose the order they went on the stack but they disagreed. who was right?

You activate Viscera Seer 's ability, paying the activation cost by sacrificing Nether Traitor . Pawn of Ulamog and Grave Pact 's abilities trigger when Nether Traitor is put into your graveyard, and since you control both abilities, you choose the order in which they are put onto the stack.
603.3b If multiple abilities have triggered since the last time a player received priority, each player, in APNAP order, puts triggered abilities he or she controls on the stack in any order he or she chooses. (See rule 101.4.) Then the game once again checks for and resolves state-based actions until none are performed, then abilities that triggered during this process go on the stack. This process repeats until no new state-based actions are performed and no abilities trigger. Then the appropriate player gets priority.
Once you choose the order, priority passes. If no player chooses to put anything on the stack, the top item on the stack will begin to resolve.
When Grave Pact's ability resolves, each other player will sacrifice a creature. When Pawn of Ulamog's ability resolves, you will have the option to put a 0/1 colorless Eldrazi Spawn creature token with its inherent ability onto the battlefield.
I don't see the importance of them sacrificing their Protean Hulk to Grave Pact's ability. What exactly was the order of events? Did you activate Viscera Seer's ability in response to your opponent casting Protean Hulk ?

no what happened was I was tapped out he casted 3 creatures with a ton of mana one steel hellkite a protean hulk and another of no importance I wanted to sac my creature because if his steel hellkite had a chance to attack I would be screwed so during my turn I sac the traitor to viscera seer he sacs his hulk to get more creatures before I tell him how im going to order the stack so he sacs the hulk prematurely and in response to his death effect I make my oponnent sac more creatures by paying black mana to keep returning nether traitor by sacing the tokens for more scrying and he said that he could search for the creatures first and I cant respond to the ability which I know I can and if he got the creatures from the hulk I wouldnt have enough mana to get rid of them all and his steel hellkite would live and destroy me next turn.

The [[Protean Hulk]'s ability cannot begin to resolve unless everything above it has resolved first and each player passes priority without putting anything on the stack. He was wrong by trying to force the resolution of Hulk's ability and also for doing so out of the order of the stack.

the active player would chous the order of his abilitys then each player in turn order would put there abilitys onto the stack
if you just ended your turn your abilitys would resovle first,
when your gravepact resovles the player would get to chouse wich of his 2 creatures to sack
if you have pawn of ulamog resolve before gravepact, you could sack the token in responce to protean hulk's ability, to put another gravpact onto the stack and make him sack his second creature before protean hulk's ability resolves
