Vaevictis Asmadi, The Dire+ Combat Celebrant + Hua Tuo, Honored Physician + Haste = Infinite combat?
Asked by Makyran 6 years ago
I wonder if this works. Normally it's harder to get infinite combat steps with the Combat Celebrant because of his clause! However, the way I do this should get around it in a similar way to Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker. How I do this is exerting and attackning with my commander. I then choose to sacc the Combat Celebrant and send it to the yard as part of Vaevictis Asmadi, the Dire ability. As all the targets hit the yard, I retain priority and put Combat Celebrant back on top with Hua Tuo, Honored Physician and end up putting him back on the field. I now have a new instance of Combat Celebrant so I can repeat this as long as I have haste to attack again!
Any help is greatly appriciated!
Ahh, ofc I would miss that obvious part on Hua Tuo, Honored Physician! :p
I believe you are able to react to some part of Vaevictis Asmadi, the Dire single ability with Worldly Tutor/Vampiric Tutor. Thinking that these cards could do this, got me thinking this could work (ignoring Hua not working). Is there a window for such an interaction, or was I misinformed Gidgetimer?

You can respond to the ability as a whole, but once the ability starts resolving (the targeted permanents are sacrificed) you can not do anything until after it is done resolving (cards are revealed and put on the battlefield if they are permanents).

Many thanks Gidgetimer for your explanations, and for taking time to explain in detail!
May your future games be fruitful and fun!!

There are a few reasons this won't work:
Hua Tuo, Honored Physician states that you can only activate it before attackers are declared and neither Combat Celebrant nor Vaevictis Asmadi, the Dire trigger until after they attack.
The sacrifice and revealing the top card with Vaevictis Asmadi, the Dire is a single ability. Once a spell or ability starts to resolve it must finish resolving before any player receives priority.
