Two unrelated questions: Hexproof and lands
Asked by erabel 12 years ago
As the title says, 2 unrelated questions:
- Is Hexproof retroactive? I played a game recently wherein I enchanted some person's creature with Immobilizing Ink , then later the player somehow gave that creature hexproof. Would the enchantment fizzle? I'm only asking because I'm confused as to why Witchbane Orb would have to specify that the player removes all Curses when it gives a player hexproof.
- When an effect like "All lands are now Forests in addition to their other types" happens, does that mean they can be tapped for whatever color mana? Or am I thinking too much into this? Is it implied that Forests can be tapped for green mana?
To clarify the above. Enchantments do target when they are on the stack as a spell. This means that they cannot "target" an opponents creature with hexproof when they are cast. an enchantment on a creature is not targeting any longer.
To answer your question, if you control an Immobilizing Ink enchanting a creature an opponent controls and that opponent casts Witchbane Orb it will have no effect on immobilizing ink. Additionally, Witchbane Orb says that "you" meaning the player who controls it has hexproof, it doesn't say anything at all about that players' creatures having hexproof.
On the second question you are correct. "Tap: add one green mana to your mana pool." is an ability inherent in a forest. If your land is a Swamp and is a forest in addition it can tap to add 1 green to your mana pool as well as it's original ability to add 1 black to your mana pool.

Thank you for the answers. I guess I didn't really make it clear, but the question about the hexproof was more along the lines of someone put Swiftfoot Boots on the creature after I Immobilizing Ink 'd it. Would the creature still be enchanted?

for instance Hallowed Fountain says (T to add W or B to your mana pool) as reminder text. It is implied that the island and plain have those abilities.
Also, If it does not specify "in addition to its othet types" then it eliminates them. Lush Growth on a Watery Grave results in a mountain forest plains only.
Whereas protection causes auras to "fall off", shroud etc does not. This is because shroud only depends on being targeted with a spell or ability. Even if the enchantment did target when it came into play, it's not targeting anything else anymore.

If the creature already had the enchantment on it then the enchantment would remain on it. Hexproof says: "It cannot be the target of spells or abilities your opponents control." Enchantments do not target except wen they are being cast. Once it is on the creature it no longer targets because it is not being cast and therefore is not subject to the restrictions of hexproof.
Does that help?

if they give there creature hexproof no the enchantment will not get destroy, lets say there was an a Invisible Stalker you opponent has you can still enchantment it because enchantment dont target. and the Witchbane Orb removes all Curses have not to do with hexproof. just once a person plays Witchbane Orb all curses get removed
and with 'All lands are now Forests in addition to their other types' means it you put that affect on to a swamp that land now tapps for black or green mana
how this help
