protection from all colors

If I have an Etched Champion on the BG and enough artifacts out that it has pro all colors, does this mean my Tempered Steel will not give it the +2/+2 (not targeting it, general effect)? Just wondering about protection rulings. Does "protect" keep it from damage, destruction and negative effects or does it negate any and all color effects even helpful ones?

No.
Protection is summed up in the acronym DEBT:
D - damage. A creature with protection from something can't be damaged by any source it is protected from.
E - enchant/equip. A creature with protection from something can't be enchanted or equipped by anything that it has protection from (i.e. Holy Strength and Demonspine Whip could not be put on your Champion when it has metalcraft).
B - blocking. A creature with protection from something can't be blocked by any creature it has protection from.
T - targeting. A creature with protection from something can't be targeted by any source it has protection from.
Protection does not stop indiscriminate "blanket" effects. Therefore, Champion will still get the buff from Tempered Steel. Also, if someone plays Day of Judgment , Champion will be destroyed.

I'm not sure if there are any, but would colorless spells that target a creature bypass Etched Champion s ability? Might be straightforward yes, cuz colorless is well, colorless, but just checking.

Yes. Ghostfire is colorless and bypasses the protections on Etched Champion and also Emrakul, the Aeons Torn .

Tempered Steel will still pump him.
According to the official rules, Etched Champion cannot "be blocked by creatures of any color-- can't be enchanted by colored enchantments -- can't be the target of spells or abilities from colored sources. -- and all damage that would be dealt to etched champion from colored sources is prevented.
Tempered Steel is a battlefield effect that does not target or directly enchant etched champion. thus, he would still get the pump just like he would still die to Wrath of God .
